1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Gorgeous knits by Sandra Backlund on: April 13, 2007 12:51:38 PM
(apologies if there's already a thread on this--I checked and didn't see one)

Just ran across this website--so gorgeous! I wouldn't even know where to begin if I want to reproduce this sort of thing

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ribbing tension -- help! on: April 13, 2007 08:22:41 AM
I do the twisted stitch thing too (you just fix it when you're doing the other side by knitting into the back rather than the front) and it completely solved the problem. I use it sometimes for cable knits, too, where there's a little gap between the cabled area and the purled area.

it's stella mccartney--I found some similar stuff by typing stella mccartney sweater pattern into google today.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What's up with Noro Yarn addicts/crazies? on: March 13, 2007 10:56:45 AM
Noro has gotten on my nerves lately because it will look gorgeous in skein, but then knitted up some of the colorways get really ugly and you end up with this barfy looking color scheme....I'll post a picture later of a scarf that started out gorgeous and rapidly got nasty. Same thing with a beret--I used one skein and some of the colors that came out couldn't be seen when I bought it. The beret is kinda hideous...

I'm going to have to agree with you on that point.  Usually for me the Kureyon is just gorgeous, but every once in a while a color shows up that is horrible.  I did the mistake rib scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts where you alternate skeins every couple rows and there were a couple of spots where it just looked dirty.  I try to look at the colors online before I buy so that I know what's going to show up in it, but every once in a while one will trick me.  I still love it, though.

exactly--a skein that looked to be gray and teal ended up with a ton of brown and WHITE?!?! And not just regular white--some sort of dirty, yellowish white. I broke that part out of the skein and kept knitting...

The yarn the pattern calls for is back in stock at elann and they made lots more colors!

Oh, and my skein had SPLINTERS in it!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / stella mccartney sweater dress--any patterns? on: March 13, 2007 10:14:56 AM
I love this:

but have never seen anything even close pattern wise. Anyone ever made something like that and care to share their pattern source?

thanks!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Twinkle's Big City Knits: 30 Chunky-Chic Designs on: February 21, 2007 11:09:51 AM
All the patterns are adoreable but DAMN that yarn is expensive!

In terms of using bulky-weight yarns, what weight of yarn stranded together would equal one strand of bulky--two sport weights? Two worsted?
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cape pattern for slightly-less-cold weather on: February 21, 2007 07:11:38 AM
I fell in love with this cape and would love to make something like it (only knitted!) for when the weather warms up

There was a cape pattern in this month's knit1 but it was kinda boxy...does anyone know of a pattern that's slightly more interesting--maybe with cables or a hood? It should also have the slits for your hands to go through, if possible.

thanks!
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Tennis/Cricket Vest or Sweater on: February 16, 2007 06:39:59 AM
The new knit1 has a REALLY cute vest, as well as a polo shirt that could be tennis-y if you omit the diagonal stripe.
