Has anybody made their own 'bookcloth' to cover their journal?

I found a tutorial online explaining how to make your own bookcloth by ironing a piece of fusible webbing onto the wrong side of your fabric cover, to which you then fuse tissue paper.  I'm guessing the tissue paper is added to the cloth for strength but perhaps I'm wrong??

What I wanted to know is whether you could use fusible interfacing (such as Vilene or Pellon) rather than the tissue paper?

Any thoughts anybody?

 Grin

ETA:  Have looked into this further and from what I can see, it looks like the tissue paper may be to absorb the glue so that it doesn't seep through to the cloth.  There may well be another reason for it, but that's all I could find for now.

Now... just to decide what to do... hmm. Too many choices.

The hardest decision I have at the moment is how to bind it all together.  I decided early on that I wanted to bind my journal with stitching.  Coptic Stitch looks very attractive and enables the journal to be opened flat.

But I'm beginning to wish that I hadn't continued to look at bookbinding resources online as I'm finding it hard to stick to my original decision.  I know I will probably go with my gut and do what I had planned all along, but you can't help but be inspired by all the gorgeous handmade journals & books!

I've got one more thing to get and then I'll be ready to assemble.  I'm taking the weekend off though as I need to chill out for a few days.   Catch you all on Monday! x
