OMG, thank you all so much for the compliments!  Sorry for not getting back here sooner... Yes, the smash cake was for my daughter to have for her very own, so she could really dig into her first real taste of sugar!! 

Here is how she looked after about 10 minutes:

And, yes all of the characters were made with the fondant.  The only non-fondant accents are the black pupils and elmo's mouth.

Oh, before I forget- it is pretty common to have the birthday person (a bit older) bite into the cake after blowing out the candles.  Then, someone pushes birthday person's face into the cake.  I am so NOT a fan of this practice, I think it's horribly cruel.  Same goes for throwing people into the pool at pool parties.  not cool, IMO.
