Just checking in... it escalated to pneumonia, more meds, Anana still being a fantastically patient nurse but undoubtedly bored to tears...  :/

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon  Undecided

SlickMariaVic -- Birdkenstocks!!!

lol  Cheesy

We went on a 4 day trip through Peril Strait and around the bays and inlets. It was just for fun, to do some sight seeing and sport fishing, catch crabs/ shrimp, etc.

The first morning, we anchored near the Nakwasina River. There were half a dozen brown bear that bolted when we went ashore to fish. It was impossible to get a photo of Ipo with them because they just looked like brown dots in the background  Undecided

We caught a few Dungeness crabs that were dinner that night -

The shrimp pots were really hit or miss. One came up with a bunch of young Tanner Crabs that were immediately released-

But we did catch shrimp in the other pots-

We saw lots of deer. The deer up here, called Sitka Deer, are TINY compared to what they have in the lower 48 though. These ones posed as we went ashore in Poison Cove

The Eva River, great Dolly Varden fishing Smiley

Coming home, there's Sitka! And one of the small cruise ships, I think it was the Seven Seas Navigator

When we got back from the fun trip we had a days rest then back out trolling. We'd start at first light, 3am, so here is Ipo taking in the actual sunrise just after 4 am.

Love the "drinking age verified" band that Ulewehi is sporting Smiley

Lots of rain here. I need to find Ipo an umbrella because here in the rain forest nothing is canceled due to rain Tongue ball games, parades, etc all go on regardless.

Yesterday we took Ipo out on a commercial troller (NOT to be confused with a trawler) and caught some King Salmon-

I'm hoping to get some better photo's when we head out today.

When we went to Anchorage for my son's medical stuff we went to the Sea Life Center in Seward the day before his surgery. So Ipo hung out with all sorts of sea life-

Well, galleries are quiet places for reflection. Like a library. I just hadn't found this discussion thread, yet. But thanks. I am not in the LV, but I sure enjoy seeing them. Perhaps I will jump in on a future one. It was very interesting about the filming stage. And some of the behind the scenes actions there, too. I am thinking up some wonderful places that I might share when I trade a LV of my own with someone. I don't know. My life seems boring compared to what I have visited through your eyes. Burgess Falls pops to mind, a wonderful waterfall and nature preserve near me. I will have to add more to that list. I'm sure we have other things in my area that I am missing out on. I am guessing the next one will be in March 2016? That will give me some time to think about and plan for. Until then, I love seeing the many travels.

I am lurking  Grin

We try to have one starting in March/April and ending in Sept and one starting in October and ending around March. So lots of opportunity to join Smiley

Inselaeffchen is absolutely correct- it's great way to see your town differently, through the eyes of a tourist Smiley Most of us get bored with our home towns because we are there 24/7.. but to a tourist it's new and exciting!

Stillatthetop - thanks for your well-wishes! I'm pretty sure I'll get over the cold (or just force myself through it) - it's just the usual with 2 germ magnets in nursery/kindergarden!! Smiley As for commenting - I'm sure you're allowed to comment in the Gallery! Smiley

Of course! Everyone is welcome in the conversations in either thread Smiley

I'm so relieved Janwu arrived safely!

Inselaeffchen- that castle is awesome Smiley

Ipo is packing to head to Anchorage with us for a few days. It will be a big change to go from our remote little city, to Anchorage, where almost half the population of Alaska lives.
I'm taking my son up for medical appointments so I will probably be too busy to be online for a few days. But we will do some sight seeing and get some photos Smiley

Hope everyone is having a great weekend Smiley It's been so sunny and dry here that they actually have a fire warning for the Tongass, which is of course a rain-forest, so it's REEEALLY unusually dry.

Anyway, it was a crazy busy week with out of town family visiting. But the plus side is we saw all the local tourist attractions and Ipo got to come along Smiley

We took Ipo to the Alaska Raptor Center where they treat injured birds from all over the state. They treat everything from Bald Eagles to Hummingbirds Smiley

Ipo saw Bald Eagles -

Met an owl that is the same size as Ipo Smiley

and peeked into the clinic where they work on the birds when they come in-

We went to see the Welcome to Sitka sign. I love this sign. We have an amazing metal artist here who makes all of these signs, more of his work will pop up in this gallery as the swap progresses. I love them.

We did some tide pool-ing where Ipo met a sea cucumber

The beach where we found the sea cucumbers

Went to the science center/ aquarium where we saw an octopus

and salmon fry

and then Ipo was nearly eaten by a bear!  Grin

Ipo has arrived! Yesterday was really nice, and one of the lowest tides of the year. So he got to see the beach, mountains and all the scenery Smiley

The first day he was here he saw an ABC Brown Bear in the wild. Unfortunately it's not safe to get close enough that it shows well in a photo with a LV, and when I shrunk the photo to meet Craftsters size requirements you couldn't see the bear at all..

She was a young sow and unfortunately so many people started crowding her trying to get closer and closer for photos that she started getting aggressive and was shot by an Alaska Wildlife Trooper on Sunday when she charged him.  Cry

Hehe, I worked in a movie theatre through high school and college, and then later worked part time at an independent/foreign films theatre... It's like pulling teeth to get me to go to those places. Haha! (Except the little indie theatre-- that one was small and awesome!)

Ours is a really tiny one screen theatre. I'll have to get there early for Jurassic Park so I can get some LV photos. They have another screen at a second location a mile away. Nether look much like a movie theatre honestly, not like the ones in the lower 48. The second location has a couch in the back of the room that you can pay extra to sit in instead of the theatre chairs  Cheesy It's a small locally owned operation so they are actually pretty cool.

This is really throwing me for a loop- suddenly not having a LV in the middle of the swap  Tongue Can't wait to meet Ipo!

Ultimately, there were maybe 15 people in total in the theater which holds like 200 or something. Score!

Haha you fared better than we did. When we went to see it we got there half an hour early and still ended up waiting in line so long that the movie had already started when we finally got in and found two open seats. It was insane, especialy for such a tiny town. I think I'll avoid the theatre like the plague for the first week that the new Star Wars movie is showing  Shocked
