1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / simple brown skirt on: January 21, 2007 02:20:04 PM
i made this skirt a couple days ago and then wore it to church today. it is left over liripipe material from my friends peasant outfit. sorry the picture isn't great...
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / peasant garb on: January 21, 2007 02:15:16 PM
my husband and i have this friend noah who was invited to this dinner on saturday.  i am still not sure exactly what the dinner is for or all about, but apparently it is held every year and it is themed. this year it has a peasant theme. here is what i made him:

(notice the hand sewn shoes, courtesy of my husband)

i used one of his t-shirts to make a pattern:

then i just looked online for a pattern of a liripipe.
oh, and the shoes were made from an old leather jacket.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / purple dove shirt on: December 18, 2006 09:04:22 AM
i did this one a month or so ago. ignore the purple square of fabric in the first pic.

this shirt never fit right, so i cut 'er up. here is how it turned out:

i used some little purple buttons to connect the waist band, sewed a button hole and made a cord out of extra material for the neck, and put some elastic in the back to make the top band fitted.
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / don't make me go zelda on you on: November 15, 2006 06:04:32 PM
i am a total old school video game nerd, so when i saw this shirt, i had to have it...

i wasn't thrilled with the color, so i decided to incorporate some other fabric...

i am the first to admit that putting a large, horizontal box over your belly isn't the most flattering thing to do, but my love for zelda overruled...
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / a couple button-up shirt recons (or, darts are my friend) on: November 15, 2006 05:29:38 PM
it is amazing what taking in a seam or two and adding some darts will do for an old thrift bought shirt.

this one was an oversized mens button up...

i love polka dots...

here is how it ended up...

after the last picture, i decided to change out the buttons for something a little more modern...

i wore it to work today and got lots of complements.

this one looked like something i used to see my great grandma wear, but i loved the fabric and the details in the front...

my main issue with this shirt (other than it being too large) was that it had long sleeves. i am a hairstylist and long sleeves make for a difficult time at work.

finished project:
i took the top two buttons and a button form either sleeve (each sleeve originally had two buttons), then placed them between the already existing buttons in the front to counteract separation...

this is how i envisioned wearing it...
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / late night shirt concocting (2am) on: November 12, 2006 02:17:47 AM
i just finished this one. i mixed inspirations from a couple other threads (bad fitting concert tee & punky lolita skull print hoodie) with my own twist, of coarse.

it started out as one of my old, over-sized sleep shirts

7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / baby's got the bends (gift idea) on: November 09, 2006 11:20:05 PM
when i first met my husband we lived on opposite sides of the state of california. we couldn't see one another that often, so we would each send little gifts by mail to surprise the other person. simple stuff. just to let the other know that they were being pleasantly thought of. this is the first gift i ever made for him...
first i collage a simple box.

the i printed out, on both sides of a sheet of paper, the lyrics to his favorite song (which, at the time, was the bends) and shredded it.

inside, i put "mel" the koala. why a koala? well, that is a story best saved for another time.

the important part wasn't the gift itself, but what it represented. each element of the gift was derived from different phone conversations we had had (because what do you do when you can't "see" a person? you talk to them on the phone- all night long).

he has held on to this box for five years now.

moral: it truly, very much, more than anything else, matters most, the thought that you put into the gift.
