1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Twinkle's Town and Country Knits - Urban Legends Skirt on: July 13, 2009 08:18:47 AM
Has anyone tried this pattern?  I really really want to make this skirt, but I am SO wary of knitting up Twinkle patterns, I can never get them to turn out like ANYTHIGN i would wear or the errata is so cumbersome, you can even get through the pattern..can someone convince me to dish out $$ for yarn and my precious time for this skirt? Smiley

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Edit my Photos swap? on: May 13, 2009 08:55:15 AM

I was thinking about a hybrid disposable camera swap, participants would take pictures for their partner, send parter files of pics taken and partner would then artistically edit the pictures and send them back!  I have recently become addicted to photoshop and photoshop elements.  These programs ARE pricey but you can download 30 day free trials at adobe.com.  We could include one crafted item your partner would make to help display the edited pictures, like a frame or a scrapbook/photo album.  What does everyone think??
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / An Error Has Occurred! Unable to access search daemon? on: December 29, 2008 07:46:26 AM
Has anyone else had this happen?  I noticed this maybe a week or so ago, but figured it was just a temporary thing...happened again today..stupid question possibly..but is it just my computer?  Sad  Huh
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Escort/place card trees! on: August 19, 2008 05:59:23 AM
Hi everyone!

I'm getting married in two short months, and me and my crafty MOH have been crafting up a storm.  We took THIS inspiration (www.theknot.com):

1. We bought ugly cheap terra cotta pots, painted them red, stenciled the black damask design on them, and painted the thin black stripe at the top of them, we made two total

2. Found the cutest escort cards that perfectly match the damask design theme of everything at Michaels.  This link is for the invites, which I am using to print out menus for the tables.
http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=wd0206&channelid=

3. We hotglued the tent cards shut and glued a loop of ribbon to the top of them, front and back of that finished:

4. Bought a whole lot of twigs and branches from the best floral, non-memebership warehouse around, if anyone is from SE Michigan, check out Disount Floral and Crafts!  Finished product:

thanks for looking!
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / All kinds of dyeing swap on: July 24, 2008 07:52:05 AM
How would everyone feel about a swap for dyeing...any kind of dyeing.   Such as

Dyeing Roving/Yarn
Painting Roving/Yarn
Sharpie Dyeing
Fabric Painting
Tye Dyeing
Dip Dyeing
Over Dyeing
Batiking
Other types I can't htink of right now Smiley

I could organize and hopefully pair people up based on what they know how to do and what they would like to receive.  Like I can tye dye, dip dye, overdye, ect and I would love to receive some batiking or hand dyed yarn.  We swap supplies, dyed items, how-to kits..this could go a lot of different directions, let me know peeps Smiley
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Vogue Knitting - Lace Shrug, lace help for a lace NEWB! on: May 04, 2008 06:43:24 PM
I really want to make this shrug for my wedding:

The pattern is FULL of mistakes in the magazine and they've posted corrections online which they have corrected for a second time.  Is anyone trying out this pattern?  The second set of corrections are not making sense with the first set of course...

Some general lace questions:
Is blocking going to make this fit?  My row gauge is pretty much right on but the sleeve is no where NEAR my wrist...my stitch gauge is NOT correct until I stretch the crap out of it... please please help a lace newb Smiley

Details of swap:
Do you love to cook?  Would you love some collected/tried and true recipes to add to your own collection?  SIGN UP for this swap!  The plan:

1)   You will purchase one cookbook for your partner.  It could be new, thrifted or from a used book store.  Also, try these sites:
http://half.ebay.com
http://www.halfpricebooks.com/
http://www.amazon.com
The price limit for this is $15.  Try to purchase something in line with your partners tastes.  This item will be medium in size based on the price.

2)   You will craft one cookbook.  This cookbook will include at least 10 recipes.  Anything that is contained in a book will work, and get creative!  This part should be fun and really display your best crafting skills.  This item will be classified as large based on the amount of crafting time involved.
I have found a lot inspiration in the papercrafts, journals and bookmaking boards on Craftster.  As far as recipe inspirations go, I found some good sites to check out if you dont have 10 family recipes to share with your partner:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177564.0 Craftsters favorite online recipe sites
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=213297.0 good crock pot ideas
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=230563.0 brand name copy cat recipe sites
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=135179.0 vegetarian/vegan recipe ideas and sources
As far as types/varieties of recipes goes, go with your partner wants.
JUST ADDED : Cite any reference you used to gather your recipes, like a website, thank you Stargazer629 for this suggestion.  I didnt want the copywrite stuff to get too confusing and this really simplifies it by giving credit where credit is due.

3)   You will also send you partner one crafted medium item, kitchen/cooking related.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Deb Stoller Swap on: December 05, 2007 01:59:51 PM
We all <3 her books, (Stitch 'n' Bitch, Happy Hooker and Snitch 'n' Bitch Nation) so why not swap some homemade goodies out of them?  I'm thinking one big item for everyone, and this can be open to crocheter and knitters!  Newbs to the crafts could come along too, I bet other people in the swap could help out with specific pattern questions very easily.  What do ya'll think??
