Wow, Retromiad, what a great idea!
I feel your pain, Jershy, sewing can be frustrating and it is sooooo disappointing to have high hopes for a project and have it turn out badly. My mom has always stepped in and redirected my missteps so I think Retromiad's idea for a mentor is super! Try to look at the big picture and see that although your projects are not always like you would want them to be, you *are* making progress. Celebrate your victories and keep trying!

I second all that Stacysews says and can add only one more suggestion. Don't start out with expensive fabric for your projects. When I was starting out, I bought great fabric with a picture in my mind how it would turn out and when it didn't turn out that way, I was disappointed and very, very discouraged with the amount of money I "wasted". Buy cheaper fabric and start with projects that are useful but won't break your heart if you make mistakes, like aprons, pillowcases, pillows, tablecloths, napkins, etc.
Good luck!

CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Looking for one-yard skirt patterns/instructions - help!

Your skirt size will have a lot to say about how much yardage is needed to make a skirt. I would suggest going through the patterns at the fabric store or Walmart and read the size and yardage charts on the back of the patterns until you find one that that uses a yard of fabric for your size.
You can always sew your fabrics together for interesting effects to make largers pieces of fabric.
I hope that helps!
