Put it in opaque jars (the kind with a latch) as a gift with new coffeee mugs for the coffee lovers in your life.

The pen part is easily replaced.  You can cover the outside with polymer clay and bake them in the oven using the clay's instructions.  You just need to pull the pen piece out prior to the baking part.  Replace the pen and then you have a nice gift.

What about recovering a journal with them and giving them as gifts.

I remember this kid in highschool that had a vest made out of ties.  IT used all the ties and they made a perfect v in the front.  In the back they went diagonally across the back and there was an iteresting woven pattern. It is hard to explain without pictures, but it has also been about 10 years since then, I hope it helps.

When I was little, my mom saved up a bunch and one day we made binoculars for play with them.  We glued two rolls side by side, punched holes on the outside of both rolls and strung yarn through them. THis was one of my favorite crafts we did (we would make them every once in a while, espc. if my sister and I had a bunch of friends over).  I think we covered them in foil, but I bet you could do almost anything with them.
667  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Revamping Metal Needles? on: November 03, 2006 04:44:16 PM
Sanding should work, but I would also put a coat of something clear over it, like polyurethane or even clear nail polish (the top coat), it should make it smoother...
