21  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / No-sew Sink Skirt - Soooo much cuter than the stuff they sold in the store! on: August 29, 2009 08:16:22 AM
When I moved into my new place a few months ago, I knew I'd need a sink skirt because there were very visible, very ugly pipes under the sink in my bathroom.  I looked in stores and couldn't find anything that I liked because 1) they all attach to the outside of your sink, which made me cringe a little (it would get yucky so fast!) and 2) all the ones in the stores were so ugly.  I couldn't find one in my price range that didn't look like it came from Grandma's bathroom in the seventies.  So what's a crafty gal to do?  Make it myself, of course!

My friend is borrowing my sewing machine, so I made it almost entirely without touching a needle and thread.  Have a look!

If you're interested in learning how to make one yourself, you can find the full tutorial on the blog I write for.  http://www.boredla.com/craftiness-is-next-to-godliness-sink-skirt-minus-sewing/
22  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: A swap for dyers! Gallery time!! on: March 24, 2009 12:46:34 PM
I got my package from Superhooker today and boy was it amazing.  Everything came wrapped really nicely and she TOTALLY spoiled me.

First, she sent two great hand-dyed fabrics. She was disappointed with how they turned out because her kitchen is too cold, but I love them.  One was purplish/blue/grey (matches my paint color so well!) and the other was gorgeous pink/yellow.

She also sent some amazing tea towels.  They're pretty much the coolest towels I've ever owned by a long shot.  I'm going to save them 'til this summer, though, when I move into my own place because my roommates now would just ruin them Sad  The pictures feature my cat because she was upset that I was taking pictures on her window-looking-out spot and got under them both times.  I guess she likes them, too!

She also sent me a beautiful skein of yarn and some batik fabric that looks to me like abstract trees.

Thank you so much, Superhooker!  I couldn't have asked for a better package.
23  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Bath & Beauty Swap; Sign-ups 03/15 - 03/29, Send by 04/24 on: March 20, 2009 10:41:38 PM
I'd love to be in this swap as well, but I'm thinking either soy wax candles or some reusable cloth pads for astringents, makeup remover, etc (basically like the cotton rounds, but you can throw them in the wash instead of throwing them out).  Would anyone like to get those things?  If so, I'm in.

I got a card in my mailbox today that my package from Superhooker came while there was no one to pick it up.  It's waiting for me at the Post Office, so I'll go get it on Monday.  Can't wait to see what's inside!

I love the fabric too Wink  I didn't dye it, though.  It's quilting fabric from Joann, so anyone who wants some can buy it.  And if the color palette isn't quite your cup of tea, it comes in a bunch of different colors and patterns.  (I did dye the yarn, though.)

P.S. Glad you like it, Superhooker!

I shipped to superhooker yesterday.  It should get there soon!

I dyed over the weekend and now it's just waiting to dry so that I can send it off.

And I mixed too much dye, so I guess I'll have to dye some for myself, too...oops!  (Think I really did that by accident? Wink )

Wow, this is really beautiful!  Did you use some sort of spray varnish, or was it actually spray-paint?  From the pictures, it looks like plain wood, not like you painted it, so whatever you did, it looks great.

I'm going to PM my info now.  This sounds like a lot of fun...hope people will be OK with me dyeing yarn.  I'm not good at dyeing fabric and not set up with the supplies.

I LOVE the ring.  It's gorgeous.  Normally steampunk doesn't really fit my personal style, but the flower makes it look so delicate and feminine.  Nice work!
