Love it... tute maybe?Huh?

I'm sorry, I'm not the type of person who has the patience to do tutorials (I sew too fast and get too into it to really document anything), BUT.

For all of those interested in creating something similar,

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=12439.0 here's a tutorial for a circle skirt
and the bodice can be faked from anything with princess seams

I like it! I have been hanging onto this same fabric for a year and was sooo going to make something awesome like yours this summer. It's going to have to wait another year since now I'm pg, so I'll just live vicariously through you. Dance, dance, dance!

Hahaha, I'm totally okay with that! I will definitely do extra dancing for you and your baby!

O i love it!  I used to swing dance all the time, but when I started dating my bf 2 years ago and found out he has no rhythm and hates dancing, I stopped.  I had to wait for the perfect "you owe me" moment to get him to try it.  Well he screwed up big-time in early April and picked up a shift at work for the Saturday that our friends' wedding was!  Argh!  Now he is learning to swing dance, whether he likes it or not  Wink  I'm sure if I had a dress like that, he would be much more willing to get up and dance!  Beautiful work!

The dress helps! My person missed out on this swing dancing excursion, but when I told him about the dress, he sorely regretted it.

pretty, I love the cherries fabric

Heh, thanks! It's an Alexander Henry called "Sweet Cherry".

Cheesy  love it!  wish i had a swing party to attend.

Check your local performing arts centers. I had no idea that there were swing shows/dances/what-have-you's in my area until I got dragged to one. I just saw this site and it looks like it has a bunch of information on dancing meetups/classes in all kinds of places.  http://ballroomdance.meetup.com/

I've seen a lot of stuff made with this fabric, and I have to say, your top is definitely my fave. Really clever fabric placement, and the zebra is an adorable addition.

Thanks a whole bunch for the feedback everyone! I'm working on another one as we speak and hope to get it posted soon!

This is exactly the type dress I'm looking to make for a summer festival my DH's band is playing! Thanks for the inspiration!

Do share it when you've made it! I'd love to see what you come up with!

I hope you made red knickers to match!

Alas, no. Cheesy I did have a handy pair I'd planned to wear already, so it was all well and good.

You did a fantastic job!  And how handy to have a tightly-fit bodice!

It was very handy! I was shocked to see how many women were constantly readjusting throughout the night.

If I get to wear a dress this fabulous, i need to talk the bf into taking me dancing  Grin
It is an absolutely gorgeous dress  Smiley

Yes you do! I had a blast when I went, and I'm a terrible dancer!

Why wear a skirt that isn't a swirly skirt?! Lovely cherry pattern. I'm sure it'll go down a storm at swing-dancing.

Definitely! And yea, it was quite the popular dress. A few of the people I danced with admitted they just wanted to dance with me because I had one of the best skirts to spin in.

Wow! Gorgeous dress. What was the pattern number?

It's a self-drafted pattern. Cheesy

Love it!  But then I'm partial to cherry prints and twirly skirts.  Smiley
Super cool! I love skirts that whirl like that! Awesome job.

I know! Aren't extra spinny skirts the greatest?

[Warning - Not Pretty Pictures! (hoping to get better ones really soon)]

So what's a girl to do when she's invited to go swing dancing and she has nothing to wear?

Whip up a dress, of course! Immediately after this invitation was extended, I ran out to JoAnn's and picked out some quilter's cottons to make a dress comfy enough to dance in for four hours and handle sweat, the elements and still be washable.

This was the first choice, and I meant to make others to give me more options, but I only had about eight hours to work on it, so I went with the most striking.

The bodice design was drafted specifically to hold the girls down without the aid of a bra, and hold them down tight, just in case.

The skirt is a full circle plus about an extra fourth or so. The first picture really doesn't do the spin of this skirt justice. It's ridiculous. Not to mention the entire dress is lined in the same red the straps and belt are made of, for that extra kick when the skirt opens up.

Hope you all enjoyed it!
