12  ASIA / Japan / Crafting Abroad in Japan on: November 09, 2006 04:46:09 PM
I'm studying abroad in Japan, and I leave in January.  I won't be able to bring too much, so I have some questions, but this is all I can think of right now.

How expensive are sewing machines in Japan? And if I brought it back to the US with me, would I be able to use it?  I can't be four months without my sewing machine ;_;
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross Stitch Experiment on: November 03, 2006 05:10:33 PM
I was musing with the idea of cross stitching 8 bit + video game characters, and was successfull.  Here are two of them:

Only, I don't know what to do with them! Any idea?
(I'm new here, so if questions aren't allowed in this part, let me know.)
14  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Yaarg, the emerald pirate says fruit prevents scurvy! [IMAGE HEAVY] on: November 01, 2006 08:31:30 PM
here is the costume I've been working on all month in preparation for Halloween! I'm super happy with how it came out, and I hope you guys like it too.  Everything is handmade except the shoes, hat, and jewelry unless otherwise noted.  I only just found this forum, so hello.  On to the pictures!

The Hat

I hand sewed on the embellishments on the band.

I made this necklace out of buttons, two earrings, and a piece of leftover chain.

The ascot, made of leftover lining fabric, and leftover trim from the hat, and a piece of ribbon.

Pouch made of faux leather scraps filled with plastic coins, embellished with an old earing.

Which was hung on a belt made of two children's belts hooked together, and a close up of the fring and trim on the waist of the skirt

Which hung next to the cool toy gun!!

This is the eye patch, I put the wierd looking button I found on it to make it more pirate!

The coat and jewelry etc.

Close up of the cuffs

Closeup of coat buttons

All trim on the coat and bottom of skirt is hand sewn.

Closeup of the back of the coat detail

Back of the coat

Whole view of the costume on the dress form

And finally,

Me!

I had a terrific time.  I wish Halloween lasted longer than a day!!!

Please comment Cheesy Thanks for looking!

Ok, I fixed all the images! yay!
