11  Re: CRAFT MY PET FOR ME! (SU June 7-21;SO July 21, 2014) LIMIT 12 PEOPLE in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by rockmygypsysoul on: June 07, 2014 02:15:16 PM
Sent in and also loving the stories and pictures so here goes... Wink  Both our pups were from accidental litters so we got them before they ever made it to the shelter

Burton Guster, usually called Gus or Guster, our chiweenie.  When we got him he was so tiny you could carry him in your hand and in fact my husband would pop him into his jacket pocket sometimes.  He was the runt of the litter

Now he's huge comparatively!  Nine pounds, all of it attitude!  He's deaf and has severe allergies so we give him shots and he is super paranoid.  He loves his Bear and is a total mama's boy.  He kisses me if I blow on him and he sleeps more soundly on me than anywhere else.  He is super resilient and doesn't respond to negative reinforcement AT ALL.  He loves to go outside but will plop down and refuse to move when he gets hot which takes about 90 seconds during a Texas summer.

Annette Bening, called Bening, is my Maltese/poodle/chihuahua mix.  She came to us as a little gray and tan fluffball.  She would sleep in the goofiest poses and actually still does sometimes.  She loves when I sing to her, I think because it's what I did during the 2 hour drive home after I picked her up when we got her.

Now she's a 14 pound, extremely awkward looking but still gorgeous dog.  She's a teenage girl inside and full of sass and is super moody.  She likes to be delicate but is a ruthless scavenger.  Daddy is her favorite except that he won't let her lick him (which mommy allows).  She's an anxious pup and - I swear to heaven - can understand and will respond to full sentences and complex requests.  She's still gorgeous but her legs are too tall for her body and the black and gray stayed where it was while the rest of her just grew blonde.  She looks like a different dog!

Okay so this isn't really all that on-topic  Roll Eyes  BUT I am risking getting beaten with the rules stick in order to say - remember this?

I SOLD it!!!  I'm super excited!  I have sold lots of crafts and whatnot, but this is my first fine art sale!  The fact that it was one of the first 4 oil paintings I did all together is just the icing on the cake!  Cheesy

I just needed to share that!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Dumbledore's Army - Department of Mysteries
SPEW: N/A
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: For Lara
Brief Description: One of my oldest friends is struggling right now.  Her dad passed away, her mother remarried very quickly, and she was okay with all of that as it was happening.  But he's not close with her mom or her sister and while they were more bonded during that upheaval, now that things have settled down she's left without much support from them.  She's re-entered therapy and was sweet enough to tell me that as she was filling her counselor in on her past she mentioned me several times (in positive ways) and wanted to share with me that she felt I was a supportive and encouraging friend when she wasn't always getting that from the other people in her life.  So I thought something a little pretty might help her remember that she is loved and cared about.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Muggle Studies
SPEW: N/A
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: The Great Paintbrush Cleaning
Brief Description:  Okay, so I am like the laziest painter ever.  Consequently, I don't spend much on brushes since I'm often terrible about keeping them in good condition (though I am getting better at this, I promise!).  Anyway, I started out with this

and FIVE hours later ended up with this
I know they don't all look clean but they are.  I promise.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Alchemy
SPEW: Yes - benefiting our local art scene - http://www.cityoftyler.org/Departments/MainStreet/GalleryMainStreet/6x6@110.aspx
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Chemical Compounds
Brief Description: Sulfur, which plays a critical role in the rebirth of the phoenix, has the power to alter through both oxidation and reduction, particularly to metals although it is a non-metal itself.  This piece started out as an entirely different painting but was going awry.  Much like the phoenix, it was able to become something new again, including silver, copper, and gold which can be triggered by the sulfur, igniting the whole painting.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Just SPEW!
SPEW: Yes - benefiting our local art scene
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Roses
Brief Description: This is an impasto piece that actually had roses underneath and then the large rose on top

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Just SPEW!
SPEW: Yes - benefiting our local art scene
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: A Shock of Gold
Brief Description: Another abstract piece.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: BB - Strawberry
SPEW: N/A
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Lace Band
Brief Description: As a very heavy woman, I am particularly conscious about my lower belly.  I have a ridiculous amount of lingerie so I decided to repurpose my strawberry red babydoll to have a little lace belly band.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Gryffindor!!
Project Name: Linocut and Print
Project Page Link (if available): none
Brief Description: It takes mastery of different techniques for many charms and I have been working very hard at better developing my linocut prints; the cutting is fine but the printing?  A mess!!  But I worked on better designing for the print process as well as the cut itself and finally found a method of printing that's working for me!
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DADA
House: Gryffindor!!
Project Name: Zombie Apocalypse Bag
Project Page Link (if available): none
Brief Description: I made this for the Surviving the Walking Dead swap for a fellow craftster with whom I've *never* swapped!  Plus she only lives about two hours away  Shocked  I loved this bag and had been holding onto it for the right use and I thought this was it - long enough to use as a proper messenger bag so you're less likely to lose it, plus lots of pockets for proper storage.  Surviving the zombie apocalypse isn't all fun and games, you know (though I did include some Walking Dead playing cards in there  Wink)
Project Picture:

That's it for now, off to work on my DA project!!  Grin

I've been terrible, terrible, terrible about not posting but now I have finally updated my list for the first time since the end of January.  I think this is almost everything (though I couldn't swear to it).  Full list here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=430313.msg5142918#msg5142918

There are 81 new individual items I just posted on my overall list.  It's been a pretty prolific few months for me! (I know many of you are more prolific than I am but this is definitely very prolific for me!  Wink)

BUT I will just share a couple of my very favorite projects over the past couple of months...
(zombie shoes for the Surviving the Walking Dead swap)
(my niece Alexis and nephew Greyson)
(the clay bits are stamped with letters and say "for shallow seas i won't betray my ocean")
("The Stoic Dalmatian" oil painting)
("The Unimpressed Ostrich" soft pastel)
("Preservation: Peacock" oil painting)

Okay, so my husband was supposed to find the camera a few days ago (and didn't)  Roll Eyes  So tonight I hunted it down and retrieved my package where I had kept everything together until I could take pictures...only to discover that my husband has already helped himself to some of it  Angry

Anyway, I have the coolest tshirt EVER!

An AWESOME bag

And a corresponding adorable!!! hat

This supercool little 'Zombie Vaccine' kit to keep me alive and kicking...

Which included a decorated first aid kit

And a paracord bracelet

There were other goodies like the I *heart* zombies lanyard which my husband helped himself to, some Wet Ones, and whatever else my husband may have squirreled away (I think I got all the crafted stuff but please correct me if I'm wrong smileyyogini and don't take it personally - it's been a hell of a long week around here   Embarrassed)!

Okay, this is what I've been working on (this sample one I did for the hubs and I here at home!)

This actually with silver instead of gray, so sorry for the reflective shine.

It's frame-able as 8x10.  I have silver, copper, gold, magenta, violet, and light red available right now.

Is there any interest?  Enough for 3, 6, or 9?  Huh

WARNING: HUGE HOMEWORK DUMP AHEAD!!

Okay, I've been plowing through as much art as possible of late in preparation for my first art show.  Consequently, now that it's over I have oodles of stuff to turn in!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name:  8 Thoughts on Love and Thinking
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description:  To reflect the balance of love and thinking, called to mind by the number 8, I submit 8 Thoughts on Love and Thinking, just maybe not quite the kind of thoughts usually brought to mind.  Roll Eyes
Project Picture:
On Love...

On Thinking

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Mums (for Haleigh)
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: As the Pleiades are thought to be responsible for transformation of negative into positive, I painted this for a young woman who has no idea how special she is.  She's different from most of her peers - she thinks compassionately and is more imaginative and adventurous than most of the people who attend her extremely conservative, religious school and church (nothing against them per se but she does not fit in).  Her mother - who I adore - tends to have an attitude of 'make nice' and encourages her to simply suppress herself until she's able to be elsewhere.  But I see so much of me in her and I believe that she needs to appreciate what makes her beautiful in her individuality.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Magic in the Sky!
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: During my study of Aeromancy, the view of the clouds was blocked  Embarrassed  BUT! I was able to see that bit of magic that the Muggles have in them (though I suspect a kindly witch or wizard helped them figure out how to do this!)
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Trees in Pink
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: I'm trying to grow my art but am struggling with not trying to recreate images.  This was my first piece that I worked directly from a picture but actually interpreted it rather than trying to recreate it.  This was incredibly liberating and (although my husband and parents don't care for it), it brings me joy, comfort, and inspiration whenever I look at it and remember the joy of loving what I did!
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Potions
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Wisteria Pass
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: Just as polyjuice potion takes so much time and effort and patience, so too can oil paintings, especially when you want lots of different effects and colors and impressions.  Consequently, while my polyjuice potion was taking its time to brew, I also practiced my wand work on an equally complex painting.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Study of Ancient Runes
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: The Rebirth of Blossoms
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: As Berkano, the birch, is a symbol of birth and rebirth, I was thinking of other trees that are born and then reborn year after year.  The cherry blossom is a stunning example and, I think, represents spring as a whole which certainly encourages rebirth and fertility as well.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Transfiguration
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Preservation
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description:  As I've been practicing the Avifors spell, I created not only a bird, but one that kept the gorgeous blue light my wand emitted when making it.  It took many tries to get this, but I love it so much better than a bat!

Fly-by posting!  I'm on my tenth bout of this stomach hell I've had for the past three months so I'm keeping it short, though I expect you guys will best appreciate the conversation I just had with my husband while he was going downstairs:
Him: "Okay, well I'm gonna watch some X-Files and let the puppies have time out.  Just yell if you need something."
Me:  "Okay.  I'll be in my room, making no noise and pretending I don't exist."
...

Class/Challenge/House Pride:  DA - Patronus Charm
SPEW: A local crisis pregnancy center/home for expectant mothers
House:  Gryffindor!
Project Name: Mother's Day Postcards
Brief Description: Obviously, I hate papercrafts but I do so love painting!  I've been playing around a bit with watercolors which are so impossible for me to do but, using masking fluid, I made a set of 5 simple cards.

I have a tough time with Mother's Day after we miscarried four years ago so I usually do something like this - this year, I wanted to honor mothers who have adopted out their children.  Our local center stays in contact with the young women for a long time typically so this way I made a simple note inside saying "Mothers are not measured by the children in their arms but those they hold in their hearts.  Happy Mother's Day" and they can send them to the women they know will appreciate something like that (since I and they totally understand that some women would not want to receive this which is totally okay).

Congrats Tiamatfire!!  He's gorgeous! Give him lots of love from craftster friends  Kiss Kiss Kiss

And noodle, that is just freaking adorable!!  Congrats on finishing your OWL!!

A couple of assignments to turn in...

Class: Apparition
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Blossoms on the Mall
Brief Description: I spent a year living in DC and there's little to love as much as the Mall and when the cherry blossoms come in the spring it's incredible.  But my husband, a government teacher and politics junkie, has never been to DC!  We're working on paying down debt and when we get rid of the car note and credit card debt (I married into A LOT of debt) we will celebrate by taking a special trip - he doesn't know to where but it's totally going to be Washington!

(oil on canvas using the peak impasto method)

Class: CoMC
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Serious Rooster
Brief Description: Well the Fwooper is not the only impressively colored bird - we all know the peacock, cardinal, phoenix, and bluebird are among the most beautiful birds alongside the Fwooper.  But we often overlook one other - a bird I personally feel represents the bright coloring of the Fwooper along with the ridiculousness that the Fwooper can cause among those who hear his song too long.  Thus I present Serious Rooster:

(oil on canvas using the peak impasto method)

Obviously, we have a strong feather pattern along with rich colors of red, blue, and yellow.

Class: Flying
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Owl in Winter
Brief Description: Obviously, owls are quite capable of flying and I feel they are quite magical.  I imagine this one as one of the many at Hogwarts, still feeling the loss of Hedwig (as we all do).

(soft pastel on charcoal paper)
