maybe it's Trapunto? it's a quilting technique.

the pansy is GORGEOUS. i however suggest that you leave some of the pansies 'unstitched' - i personally prefer the look of some finished and some 'unfinished'. i think the contrast makes the ones you worked really hard on stand out even more.

SPLIT STITCH: someone mentioned using multiple strands - i do split stitch with perle cotton, or something w/ a bit of heft to it, so there's enough there to split. i rarely stitch with just one strand of floss, though i still consider myself a beginner. still working on the first project.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: vintage swans on: August 15, 2007 10:50:50 AM

i have this worked up - an aunt did it, i'm told. i remember as a child the swans pillowcase was for mom or dad, but not me. i got the kittens. and i LOVED the kittens.

i should unearth them and use the ones that aren't beat to hell from years of use.

very pretty!

7  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / another use for straw mats on: May 30, 2007 09:00:22 AM
i got some of those mats to use as window shades - i haven't gotten to doing it yet, but i plan on stapling them up on the inside top sill of my window, and tack ribbons up as well to use those to tie the shade up. i'll roll it, then tie the ribbons together to hold it in place.

if i ever get around to doing it.  Cheesy
