221  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / casting on more stiches mid knit? on: November 09, 2006 11:21:46 AM
Hi,

I've been thinking about making a book cover. I drew out the shape and everything but I can't figure out how to knit it.

It looks like a cross, but I'm going to sew it together into a little pouch. Say I start at the bottom, knit some, how do I add extra stiches on both sides of the knitting? Is there a way to cast on extra stiches like that?

 Thanks,
Daphna

ps: forgive my drawing... luckily knitting comes a little more naturally.
222  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: colors to use? on: November 05, 2006 10:58:19 AM
Hi,

I like the idea of light purple and grey... or maybe pink (sorta like dusty rose) and grey.

If I were making the bag for myself (I might do that) I'd make it bright pink and bright yellow... just cause the bag looks like the yellow brick road from "The Wizard Of Oz":

But that might be too much for your friend though, especially if she's more into calmer colors. Maybe orange and dark red?

223  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: alien from toy story- hat pattern? on: October 29, 2006 10:59:13 AM
You could knit it like this Teletubbies (Dipsy) hat:

I've been wanting to make one of those Teletubbies hats- they are so cute.
When you're done I'd love a picture... it sounds like a really fun idea.

GOF was such a fun movie!

I can't help with the knitting, but I did find some pictures of the bag online. There might be more in the screencaps section http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=317&page=14 but I couldn't find any.

btw: Although it doesn't have the bag www.the-leaky-cauldron.org also has a crafts section with different Harry Potter inspired stuff, including knitting.

Thanks guys. I'll have to get myself a couple circular needles for the bus.

Hi,

I just started knitting over the summer, and now that school is starting again I was wondering the exact same thing. When do people knit?

A lot of you  guys say you knit on the bus. I'm wondering how you carry your needles and yarn? I don't want it to get dirty or unraveled or anything, and I'm kinda worried about poking someone with the pointy part of my needles.
