1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Spinning issues... on: September 06, 2008 11:16:00 AM
Okay, so I have been trying to spin for a year now- and I mean I do a pretty decent job at it but I want to spin better than I am as of right now.

When I spin I am finding it an issue that my spinning is way to tight, which makes it hard, if not impossible to spin things that may actually be usable... I use a drop spindle and I love the motions of it, but when I spin a little less tightly the roving comes apart..

I am starting to just become very frustrated with the whole project of making yarn, which what I really want to do, make yarn!

I see so many beautiful creations here, and I just find myself in the dust and confused... Any of you have tips?  Embarrassed
2  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / I Dyed Las' Night ((My first yarn Dying expirience)) on: November 05, 2006 10:03:41 AM
So, Las' night my room mate and I walked into the world outside of college ((Which is a big deal for us as our college is in it's own little bubble...)) and we picked up food dye, and white vinegar...

Upon returning we gathered her roving, and my yarn, and we set off to find a microwave, a television, and a sink.

This was my first dying experience, and I over dyed a medium gray yarn (I was actually afraid the results would come out bad hah)), and ten minutes after starting my project... I finished with (what I think) is a spectacular outcome.

I dyed.

((The leaf is but decoration Smiley ))

Swatch coming soon.

((I Thought I was done, and then....))

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Icord Boho Ribbon Necklace on: October 27, 2006 12:52:05 PM
Hi!  I just thought I would post a cute necklace that took me only 15 minutes to make thinking you crafters might like it as well!

It's Icord, with two stitches.

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Portrait of an Old Man (A pencil Scetch) on: October 19, 2006 12:37:02 PM
Allright, So hi, this is really the first 'portrait' I made of anyone in my family, or anyone for that matter.  I don't know what happened but inspiration hit, and I am actually fairly proud of this portrait of my Great Grandfather.

((When I drew it he was looking down falling asleep in his news paper))

I am sorry for the darkness of it, I don't have a proper scanner at this point in time.

An actual picture of the man :

What do you think?  Yeah, I know everyone wants to look at old people.
