11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / New Custom molded resin earrings! on: March 02, 2008 09:18:45 PM
I recently had an issue with someone copycatting my style .  In an effort to make myself unreplicate-able,  I have been making custom molds.  These two pairs are from vintage earrings I had. I had made these molds awhile ago, but as I can only make one offs, ie one at a time, I dont have too many made. But, now for your viewing pleasure.......

and then here is another shape I have been playing around with-- I didn't make this mold, but it definately wasnt intended for earrings. Very big. Very daring

and here is one of my new transparent looks....

12  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Resin earrings, images I am finding to imbed..... on: February 20, 2008 10:57:58 AM
ammasmamma and I have both been playing around with transparencies and vellum. That is how I got the images in these earrings. I have been researching a lot of ephemera images, and it has been fun bitmapping, layering and messing around with them....

13  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / I Like You/ handmaiden MPL's craft show on: January 23, 2008 10:00:01 AM
I hope you are all familiar with I Like You on 42nd and Nicollet-- if not, stop over there and check it out. The owners are lovely and kind women-- and the stuff in their shop is interesting and lovely-- and local.
They had a craft show at the VFW in Uptown (Lyndale/Lake)-- and they are hosting their second on Feb. 10th.  I think they are full up, but definitely stop by, and check out their blog at http://ilikeyoublog.wordpress.com/
I will post more details when I get them-- and keep an eye out if you want to get a booth at their next show.
14  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Tax question-- hardcopy receipts? on: January 22, 2008 10:46:30 AM
This is the first year I am doing taxes for what I have sold at fairs and shows and on etsy. I know I have definitely spent more than I have made--
I was wondering--
I bought quite a bit of my supplies online. I was not smart and didnt keep the order reciepts from the shipments, but I usually have emailed order confirmations. Would those work as proof of expense?
Also, if I do not have documentation, would credit card records be proof of expense?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I have only started doing my own taxes, let alone small business taxes....
15  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / finished rubber cord for necklaces? on: January 22, 2008 09:57:46 AM
Hey, does anyone know a good online supply place that I could get finished (with clasps) rubber cord for stringing pendants, etc? I can't seem to find them for supply anywhere.......
THanks all!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / New Earrings, Fruit Paper, prayer paper and Origami/washi on: January 01, 2008 08:48:22 AM
These are three of my very favorites from my most recent batch of resin earrings. I have a bunch of new molds and am going to pour again tonight, but for now, I just sit and hold these and smile softly to myself....

Blood orange paper-- this is so pretty, the color is amazing. I think.

I love the simplicity of these-- and the see throughedness...

And I Love love LOVE this pattern-- I love when papers have a huge pattern and you take just a little bit of it and it creates a whole new context.  Love em. love em to pieces....
thanks for loooking everyone-- Happy new year!
17  UNITED STATES / Minnesota / Twin Cities craft/art fairs and shows-- lets communicate! on: October 18, 2007 08:19:10 AM
Hey everyone--
I am a 25 year old Minneapolis crafter. I just did my first neighborhood craft fair this month, and am looking for more (up until now I just sold on etsy)
Problem is, I don't ever find out about events until AFTER the deadline to apply. Online searches show you Har Mar Mall Holiday shows and not much else, and meanwhile the big show deadlines are passing me by!!!
So I thought we could share our event discoveries--
I will start the ball rolling with a small (but really great) event--
The Belfry Winter Carnival and market
Date to be set, sometime in December.
The Belfry is kind of an alternative Indie community center in S. Minneapolis-- They have computers for use, sewing machines, etc and so on, and great events.  Think cute indie chicks and dudes with tatoos and faux hawks and mod mullets, doing DIY stuff and fixing bikes. My very cool neighbor Amanda is involved and gave me a heads up-- she said they have pretty good foot traffic during the event, live music and food, and a carnival-- no booth cost on this one, but they keep a fairly stiff commission for a fair-- 30%. However, it is for a great organization, so I don't personally mind.
look up the belfry, minneapolis's website and email about the winter carnival, they are looking for vendors!
Any other events you can post?
lets communicate! thanks all....
18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / carrot paper earrings on: July 09, 2007 06:34:34 AM
Hey all--
I have been making resin earrings with origami paper for awhile, and I have been looking for alternatives. I found this great carrot paper from a Japanese paper company- I think it is really beautiful, I am going to look into their other vegetable and fruit papers.
Let me know what you think!

19  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / resin bangle picture bracelet. on: March 19, 2007 09:51:45 PM
This is a little rough, the bracelet I made my mold from had some imperfections that caused problems....
but I did it-- imbedded picture from an old damaged encyclopedia (two sided pictures).  There are some rough spots, and I didnt take enough time to even out the top of the pour edge... but I like it. Tree silhouettes, you see?

sorry for the blurry pictures.......  I couldnt be bothered this late at night to really take a nice picture. maybe once I perfect the bracelet....
20  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / resin earrings, image heavy on: March 12, 2007 05:45:59 PM
so I finally got around to taking pictures of all of the earrings I have made-- I have been working with origami paper imbedded, and earrings to go with my feather necklace-- experimented with granite powders... etc. Let me know what you think of these, not sure if they are too playful or gaudy...  any suggestions for improvement?
