So my husband and I REALLY like coffee, enough that we need bowls rather than regular mugs.
I wanted a cozy for them, but the normal way that people make them left too big of a hole by the handle and I wanted a knitted bit to shield my fingers from the heat. So I started out measuring the mug and doing the gauge and all that, and decided to do 3x3 rib.
I bound off 2 stitches after 2 rows on just the right hand side and then worked up a few rows and then cast on 4 stitches and knit 6 rows (adding a buttonhole in the middle of that). I bound off those 4 stitches and worked up 2 rows, then cast on 2 stitches and worked 2 more rows, then bound the whole thing off in pattern. So, a lot of back and forth, but it avoided almost all sewing except connecting the little tabs on the top and bottom to the other side!
I made these while I was completely hopped up on cold medicine and sick in bed, which says a lot about how quick and easy these are. And they make my knuckles happy when the mug is too hot, so there you go! I hope you love these as much as I do
