1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / altered book as a gift?? on: July 06, 2010 09:41:52 AM
my SO's son is 17 and quite artistic. he plays music and he's into film.

from what i've gotten to know about him, he likes things that are "artsy" (for lack of a better term). i thought an altered book would be a great gift for him. i'd love for it to be almost blank.... kind of along the lines of i'll get the idea rolling that it's to be an altered book by him.

does this sound like a good idea?
if so, how would you suggest i get it "started"?

thanks in advance for any and all info/comments
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / fair asking price... knit dog sweater on: July 17, 2008 12:50:24 PM
hello all,

i've been commissioned to knit two sweaters for a pair of yorkies.
we've decided on a wool/acrylic blend for the fiber.

do you think that $50US each is reasonable?

today is my birthday and i decided to treat myself, so i took myself to pins and needles in princeton.
very nice store.
the ladies were also very nice, but i couldn't help but feel a little out of place.

i did buy two skeins of sock yarn and i'm looking forward to making something for myself  Grin

5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / wrapping a plastic container with polymer? on: April 16, 2008 06:26:01 AM
i'm about to try my first polymer clay projects.
i'm thinking simple beads for stitch markers. ok, simple enough.

but i'm also looking to decorate a plastic container to put the stitch markers in. the container i want to use is plastic. it's a skippy peanut butter jar, to be exact.

how would i go about decorating it with polymer?
do i make my decorations, bake them, and then glue them on?
do i wrap them around the container and bake with the container? will it melt/warp?

any info would be appreciated before i burn my house down  Grin
thanks in advance

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / can someone dumb-down this lace pattern? on: March 22, 2008 04:27:29 PM
http://www.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=111024

i'd love to make this shawl to wear for my cousin's beach wedding. i just don't understand how she describes the increases when it comes to the repeat of the pattern.

if anyone can break this down for me, i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks in advance

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / beach wedding gift? on: October 20, 2007 06:29:57 PM
one of my very closest cousins just got engaged!!!!!!!

i'm soooo excited for her!!!!

although she still hasn't thought about too many details, she does know she wants a beach wedding in key west.

i know she doesn't want a long engagement and she doesn't want a "hot-humid summer beach" wedding. so it seems it will be a spring wedding.

she and her fh (future husband) have lived together for about three or four years, so it's not like they'll be needing towels and dishes... so i want to make her wedding gift.

i have no idea what to make!!!!

the crafts that i can do:
knit
crochet
etch
some painting
some sewing
embroidering

oh, this will be the second marriage for both.

thanks in advance for any and all ideas
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knit hat schematic question on: October 19, 2007 06:15:03 AM
i'd love to experiment with making a few different hats for this holiday season as gifts.

i've looked, to no avail, for a drawing/schematic of a hat so that i can then experiment.

i've come to the conclusion that it's roughly a rectangle with peaks on the top.... even if it's knit in the round.

i'm just wondering.... am i right in my conclusion??
and .... does anyone have a "graph" break-down of it??

thanks in advance for any and all information
