21  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Calvin and Hobbes above my couch on: March 23, 2014 06:06:22 PM

22  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Goodwill Clock steampunked up a bit on: March 23, 2014 05:29:16 PM
No before picture on this! Anyway, found a plain wall clock, with open cutouts around the frame.  I  took some old plastic gift cards, painted them green, then glued them to the back. Then the fun began!
Spaces are filled with watch movements, watch faces, keys, beads, charms, washers, bolts, a chunk of pyrite...you get the idea. Add a mechanical 'angel', and it's done.

23  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Last mirror of 2013, a big one! on: December 21, 2013 11:11:46 AM
Hanging in my room, until the next craft show. It cost 7.00 from the Habitat ReStore, and was a shabby beige...rattan,maybe? I reattached the backing, and found a 1976 date. Spray painted it silver. Then, dug in the jewelry and beads.
For an idea of size.

Detail shots.

24  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Femme Raygun wall piece on: December 04, 2013 08:08:28 PM
I painted this ages ago. It was a fabric covered piece, with an oval glass painted insert and metal decorations. So, painted the fabric greenish, the glass shades of gold and brown, the frame highlighted, and the metal with brass. There it sat for months.
Finally got the bug to do something with it yesterday. The small green frame was from a thrifted shadowbox I disassembled, the woman's portrait from a coffee table book of wallpaper design I saved from the trash, added a tiny gear and rhinestone to her hair. Raygun is a water pistol, painted with airbrush color, nail polish, and acrylic paint. Added the last two rhinestones, the tip from an ink pen, a plastic screw piece, and an auto fuse to the raygun.  Since there is no glass over this, I wanted the raygun on hooks, but didn't have any. So, used some barrel glass beads topped with pearls from deconstructed jewelry. The message inside the little gold frame is, 'And they say diamonds are a girl's best friend!'  I showed it to my daughter, and she said 'THANK YOU for not making it pink!' Hee.

25  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Time for a coffee break! Geek Style. on: December 04, 2013 07:44:56 PM
So,when digging through the bag of computer keyboard keys,I found a couple that said pause/break. I had a few small frames, but no appropriate scrapbook paper. I looked at the gift wrap aisle, the greeting cards, all over the dollar store. Then I thought to look in housewares. There were two coffee themed pot holders left, for a dollar each. Cut off the top fabric, get out the glue, and there you have it.

While I'm at it, here's a couple more, using home keys. I have just enough e's to make one more, maybe tomorrow.

26  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Two pendants on: December 02, 2013 01:15:45 PM
Just experimenting. A freeform bead and wire tree(loop on the back), and the other is a small green rock, a frame finding, a scrap of paper, wire, and jewelry sealant.
27  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / pair of geeky prints for a kid's room on: December 02, 2013 01:09:33 PM
Moon and sun framed prints from Goodwill, originally bought for the frames. There were some paper elements glued over them I didn't like and removed, then removing the glue residue was interesting! Some of the color ended up removed, which I liked around the moon, but I colored in the yellow again. Cut out an earth,a few stars, and two rocketships from a scrap of wrapping paper. Originally I wanted to do something fun with small toy rocketships, but couldn't find any. Then, when I was sorting through my bag of computer keyboard keys, I found a 'wake' and a 'sleep' button, and remembered these prints.

28  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A few trinket boxes on: December 02, 2013 12:52:34 PM
goodwill wooden jewelry box, deer from a broken shadowbox, had fun painting it!

Another jewelry box, painted it.

Experimenting. Decoupaged a crumpled, painted paper towel on a box I painted purple.

Playing with stuff from the jewelry stash, the purpley goldish box color didn't photograph well.

Odd earring, and a lot of my odd tiny beads, painted box.
29  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Four mirrors, very pic heavy! on: December 02, 2013 12:36:56 PM
This was an ornate frame from a thrift store. Two rows of gold chain, one row of pearl, four corner pieces from the stash. Two leaf earrings on the sides-there was the tiniest chip, and it hides it. And a mirror taken from a hand mirror.

This one took minutes to do. Wooden plate frame and green plate from the same thrift store trip, a mirror, rowof pearl beads, done!

This one took forever! Goodwill mirror, the clear with blue glass pebbles I'd had around forever, pearls, odd larger blue beads and a million seed beads at the top and bottom.

Another Goodwill mirror, can hang horizontally or vertically.I had a blue and an orange pair of necklaces in my stash that I wasn't going to wear, but I love those colors together. Took them apart for the beads, also used wooden beads, and any random blue/orange/brown beads I had, plus seed beads.
