1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Dave Carter song inspired mosaic-y piece on: September 22, 2015 06:09:22 PM
So, here's two links to the song, 'When I Go.' The first is from a live performance, and has a cool intro, the second, a montage of images and it's a bit shorter.
I got on a Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer kick, and this song just struck me. I had an umbrella stand I'd bought from Goodwill for use as a display for canes at craft shows, and it fell apart after one use. But then I saw how much the top piece looked liked a rising sun, and off I went.
Tons of beads, deconstructed jewelry, broken chain, mardi gras beads, recycled cardboard, four shades of gold over the cheap brass. The wooden base, painted over art from thrift store. Two close shades of blue. A metric ton of E6000, nails, and metal tape.

the particular verse. Yeah, I have a little excess sealer to clean up!, rther than something

I'm going to be hanging it in the church art gallery soon.  I indulged myself making something I wanted to, rather than something more generic that would be easier to sell.  Heck, I'll hang it up at home later.
here's the verse, that image is a bit hard to read!
"and when the sun comes trumpets from his red house in the east
he will find a standin stone where long i chanted my release
he will send his mornin messenger to strike the hammer blow
and i will crumble down uncountable in showers of crimson rubies when i go"
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Two comic book clocks on: July 23, 2015 08:17:17 AM
Had two wall clocks, dollar general clearance for 1.00 last year, and comic books.
Wonder Woman!

Speed Racer! This one is a bit sloppy, I messed up gluing it in place and sealing it, and tried to paint over where the paper got messed up. Instead of starting over with something else, which would have been easier.

That was a cheap wooden trivit from walmart, painted to hopefully look like a moon, and a fancy space blaster.

this one's made of lots of odds and ends! an ornament, a napkin ring, part of a wind chime thingy, the water reservoir of a toy water rifle, random bits and pieces. Experiment piece.

Just a big old water gun all painted up. Amazingly enough, it still works.
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Avengers mirror and wall sconce mirror on: July 22, 2015 01:34:43 PM
Goodwill mirrored wall sconce. I had a booklet with kimono patterned wrapping paper, so decoupage, and then a gold chain around the mirror.

This one was an experiment, and a real pain. Painted a thrift store mirror white, used Avengers tattoos. Tip-if a kid slaps them on their arm, they're temporary tattoos, if an adult uses them in a project, they're 'water slide decals'. Same thing! Anyway, it looked like I'd just stuck stickers on the frame. I tried adding a blue outer and red inner border, still yuk. So I dabbed on layers of paint. Two different golds, white, black, and brown, and highlit/blended a little gold/white around the avengers. Helped some.

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Mosaic bottle on: July 22, 2015 12:25:41 PM
It took forever! Three sided bottle from Goodwill. I was inspired by a pinterest pic of a bottle covered in only clear beads and gems. I didn't have enough clear, so also pale blue, white, silver, pearl, and a little pink.

Another whiskey bottle. I did a transfer of an ornate gate photocopy over the paint on one side as an experiment, played with texture a bit.

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Clockwork Astronomy-pic heavy on: June 23, 2015 01:11:14 PM
Tray painted black and silver, added a hanger, used gears and broken jewelry and watch parts. I sold it at the spring scifi convention, wish I'd taken clearer pictures first

The way the watch plates were shaped made me think of the phases of the moon, thus the name.

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Necklace display and altered bottles on: May 06, 2015 11:50:56 AM
Four sides, each a double layer of foam board attached with aluminum tape. Sprayed the whole thing blue, and used fancy wrapping paper on the edges to hide the messy joins. I stuck a bunch of push pins into a scrap piece of foam and sprayed them the same blue, and I cut a square to cover the top. It sits on a lazy susan from the thrift store.  And once I'd loaded it with necklaces, I wrapped the whole thing in saran wrap for transport! It worked, but I think I need a cross piece, an x, top and bottom for extra stability inside.

Bottles! I've made a few for craft swaps over the years, but the recent altered bottle contest got me back into it.
These aren't the best pictures, but some have sold and the rest are packed away right now. I've used paint and old jewelry and washers and random stuff for the lids. The dragons and butterflies are temporary tattoos from the dollar store, well sealed, over spray paint. The butterfly bottle-also tattoos, but the bottle was both spray and hand painted, mottled shades of gold and rust for an aged look. The little bottles with the raised leaves are mini glass apple juice bottles, and more shimmery in person. A base layer of spray paint, and lots of hand painting over that. And I love Krylon triple thick spray sealer. I'm working on some fancier bottles now.

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Recycled scrapbook pendants on: March 24, 2015 09:09:22 PM
DSCN1059 by chicgeekcf4l, on Flickr
I had a sheet of travel theme scrapbook embellishments. So, I used a variety of odd hoop earrings and bangle bracelets and a curtain ring, I put the embellishments on scrapbook paper-on partial scraps I needed to use up. Backed it with thin cardboard from packages, backed that with fabric from scraps. Coated the paper with diamond glaze to make it a little water resistant. Put an eye pin between the layers for hanging. And used old necklace chain pieces to make the edge look better. I should've taken a pic of the fabric backs, it was just so it'd be more comfortable to wear but it looked pretty. But my daughter snagged half of them when she was home to  bring back for her friends plus one for her, so I was lucky to get a pic snapped at all! Add a jump ring to the eye pin and they're necklace pendants, kiddo is thinking maybe ornaments instead, or glue a magnet on the back.
Nothing fancy, but I used up scraps!

Random bits glued on from bead and broken jewelry and random stuff stash-I think I used a tiny fuse and the point of an ink pen-and lots of skinny beads on 'MO'.
