Oh, resin would probably work. But at my house, it'd be guarenteed to have cat hair floating in it no matter how careful I was. And this way I could work on it a little at a time and be all fussy and fiddly. Cheesy

Soo much glue... Cheesy
The back of the sun part is layers of cardboard held together by yep, you guessed it, glue, and metal tape, then oddles of yep, glue, attaching it to the base, and several nails hammered in the back of the base going through it and into the sun backing for extra security, and the two nails right under the sun in the front, doing double duty as extra support and holding the words.
Gods only know how much glue to hold down all the beads and such. And the layers of sealer over that. I should probably go back and double the price to recoup the glue expense. ^_^
Thanks for the kind words!

I am so far behind that I'm not even going to attempt to read back! You all are making awesome stuff, I see.  Cheesy
I've just been so busy, and it doesn't help that I'm still borrowing my husband's computer. Not even going to try to update my list, although I have made a ton of stuff. I'll just lurk along for now.

I know what you mean! I've started buying the little tubes from the Dollar General instead of the big ones from the art supply store.  Cheesy   And, thanks!

So, here's two links to the song, 'When I Go.' The first is from a live performance, and has a cool intro, the second, a montage of images and it's a bit shorter.

I got on a Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer kick, and this song just struck me. I had an umbrella stand I'd bought from Goodwill for use as a display for canes at craft shows, and it fell apart after one use. But then I saw how much the top piece looked liked a rising sun, and off I went.
Tons of beads, deconstructed jewelry, broken chain, mardi gras beads, recycled cardboard, four shades of gold over the cheap brass. The wooden base, painted over art from thrift store. Two close shades of blue. A metric ton of E6000, nails, and metal tape.

the particular verse. Yeah, I have a little excess sealer to clean up!, rther than something

I'm going to be hanging it in the church art gallery soon.  I indulged myself making something I wanted to, rather than something more generic that would be easier to sell.  Heck, I'll hang it up at home later.
here's the verse, that image is a bit hard to read!
"and when the sun comes trumpets from his red house in the east
he will find a standin stone where long i chanted my release
he will send his mornin messenger to strike the hammer blow
and i will crumble down uncountable in showers of crimson rubies when i go"
