2051  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Re: Steampunk ATCs on: June 18, 2010 06:59:31 PM
The gear/cog at the bottom of the first one, numbered like a clock, with a spinner arrow is giving me ideas...
Nice cards.
2052  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Ultimate Recycled Idea site! on: June 17, 2010 07:34:32 PM

2053  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: What weird meals have you made while totally broke? on: June 17, 2010 07:31:11 PM
Mom would make pancake syrup herself with brown sugar, water, and maybe maple flavoring...but anytime we had syrup in the fridge, we would make plain toast. Then butter and syrup the toast like it was a pancake.

2055  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: screwback posts on: June 16, 2010 01:56:25 PM
My mother and grandmother calls them earscrews. Old non pierced earring were mostly made that way, I believe, instead of as clips. Or, at least that type was common back them. Check out goodwill, thrift stores, ect-might find some, and could repurpose them if wanted?
2056  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: how does one pull apart watches for parts? on: June 16, 2010 01:52:11 PM
I started wrapping them in a towel and mashing them with a hammer... this worked but most of the important pieces where bent or scratched. Then, I discovered that you can pull out the little twisty knob (you know, the one that you use to set the time) with round-nose jewelry pliers, stick one prong of the round-nosed pliers into the open hole and wiggle it around until the back pops off. It's a cinch to pull the rest apart Smiley
Hope that helps!   Grin
Brilliant! Thanks!
2057  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where to find gears, cogs & steampunk trinkets? on: June 16, 2010 01:45:07 PM
The manto fev website usually has watch parts, and odd trinkets too. Gears, possibly a bicycle repair shop? I have good luck getting cheap clocks and watches at goodwill, ect. sometimes. Perhaps ask on Freecycle? Someone gave me a bag of broken jewelry once...

Good luck with the costume. Like your icon.  Grin
Maybe, if you don't use polymer clay, a paper maiche trilobite? Painted, and sealed, and attached to a collar?
Have fun!

I never would have thought to use eggs. Nifty.

Very nice! I like the keyhole necklace, and the story behind it, especially.
