I want one so bad! Man, wish I'd thought of that instead of just the magnetic poetry kit I did for the swap. Great idea-I think I'll make one for myself one of these days(giving you full credit of course!). I'd like to do that with my middle schooler. Hey, you have to expose the kids to the classics, right? Again, great idea!
Whee! One thing left to finish! I got an idea for a last minute item, so I'll be working on that tonight. Craft serendipity-one small decorative part of one item was a piece of odd jewelry from Goodwill, had god knows how long. Went shopping with munchin today(she's outgrown everything!)-and found another identical one! Which was promptly glued on as soon as we got home. I bought 4-5 things that had crafty possibilities,5 books,1 shirt for me,22 tops,4 slacks,3 purses and 3 dresses for her.Spent 113.00. I love Goodwill. Even found something that has possibilities for the sea swap...
Arrgh. I was so optimistic about finishing up and mailing wednesday. Then I got the plague. I was so sick, I didn't even get online and visit craftster yesterday! Plus, it's spring break, which means DD is home all day. I love her,but I hate to craft around her.Well, when I'm on a deadline, anyway."what are you making? can I help? can you make one for me too?"Etc.Shouldn't complain too much, she actually asked me to make her stuff for xmas last year-wanted to be my swap partner.Say awww.... I've given up deciding what's a medium and what's a large-I've spent so much time on it all.So-3 smalls done, and 1 small/medium needs a tiny bit added on.3 medium to large items-2 of them done, one still being tweaked a bit. Isn't it funny how we can think"is this really good enough to send?" and "I want to keep this myself!" about the same item?
Manto Fev.com is where I ordered watch parts-but they are very tiny gears! I guess you could make some out of poly clay or resin. I've never done either, so i don't know how difficult it would be. You might want to go to the swap page-swaps that are finished-and skim the Steampunk Swap. I believe the subject came up, you might find some ideas. Good luck!
I just signed up! I'm weak,I have no willpower. My landlocked garden has a sea painting/thingy. I scavenged an oval wooden frame, inserted a scavenged piece of linoleum, painted it a lovely blue.Several coats, and sprinkled glitter on each coat,to give it some depth. Glued on some junk jewelry that looked like fish and sea creatures, had some plastic stems from silk flowers, used them at the bottom for seaweed. Cost me 99 cents for paint, and whatever the can of spray sealer cost. I wish I could upload pics from a digital camera. I know it'll eventually fall apart, but I love having it on my fence. I love odd/broken jewelry. Someone giving me a small bagfull is what really got me crafting.
Arrgh! I signed up for the Science IS Art swap. There's a western-kitchy but fun swap being bandied about that may start mid/late april. Which I have been dying to do. But even though I was hoping for a delay in the sea swap, I'll have to be in. This is such a great bunch, and sulkycat's organizing-how can I resist? Thank god I just have a few details left to finish on this swap.
Sleep is for people who suffer caffine deficiency.
The talent has been phenomenal! My crafting is not even close to the gorgeousness in the gallery. Anybody ever have those days where you're happily covered in glue and paint, but it still doesn't match the picture you had in your head? Antiruth, don't be scared! We've all had fun, and worked hard. I know my crafts aren't as spiffy(honest assesment, not swap anxiety). But I will admire the goodies in the gallery, and be inspired, not intimidated. I'm sure our stuff will be fine, and our partners will appreciate it.(that said, I'll probably be franticly tweaking stuff until the last minute... ) That said, great swap! Everyone take a bow, and pat yourselves on the back-uh,maybe not at the same time .
