1901  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Frugal Living 4: Frugal is the NEW BLACK! Signups CLOSED/Sendout May 1 on: April 24, 2011 02:25:52 PM
I'm getting there! Today I finally found what I needed for one item I was determined to make. It was cheap, and enough to make enough for my partner and me to both be frugal in the future. Hardly counts as buying anything at all. Grin
I really wanted to make plant markers from something I have at home, but they aren't turning out very well. Bah. But I like the other item I've come up with. Made from something I've had in my stash for ages!

Well, I was going to make my last item for another swap today, so I could dive into this one and start making instead of just planning. But I ended up making my DD a underbust corset so she could be an airship pirate this weeked. Old tshirt and duct tape for the form, bodice from an old black dress for the outside, lined with material from her old batman cape, edged in black bias tape, holes made for lacing, ribbon found in my stash. And glue. Lots of glue. I think after the last bit's finished, I'll have to post a pic.
Sloppy as all get out, but she's happy. Sigh....so much for mom's crafting time...

Well, I'm almost done crafting for the Frugal is the New Black swap. I know what I'm making for this one, and I've amassed supplies, even tried out a new technique! I'll be able to start work soon. In the meantime, I'll keep scribbling plans. *rubs hands together* I'm going to have fun making this one!

MizzKodak, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sending you a long distance hug, and keeping you and your husband in my thoughts.

*puts on stalking-cap* This is going to be fun. I have to finish up one last thing for another swap, then I can get to work! In the meantime, I'll be making plans. I've the glimmering of an idea...

DV, you were my angel waaay back in '07, when I was flaked on during my second swap. You're generous and friendly and a great craftster. Congrats on being a featured organizer!

One item made, and one half done. I had an easy tute for something, then saw that I needed a can of spray paint. 'Buying that isn't very frugal," I thought. "I'll just improvise with what I have!"
Well, said improvising required me to buy a can of spray acrylic sealer.  Roll Eyes
I didn't save any money, but a can of that lasts me forever. And I rather like how my 'not following the directions' item came out. I think I'll make one for me, too.

Can't wait to see!

It's funny, the urban threads design is close to what I've been wanting to paint on an old leather coat I have. I've been wanting to do a Mucha style lady, make the hair purple, add goggles, and put it in a large painted gear to frame it. The only thing stopping me is my lack of drawing skills (but surely I can do a tracing or stencil!)
Hee, bookmarked!

We're up to 20 people! I really can't wait to get started... I was on Facebook yesterday and I found a few Steamy groups that you could check out if you're on Facebook. I can post some links if anyone wants them... but I've decided I really like the dirtier (as in dirt, not sexy) side of Steampunk a lot. Mechanics and urchins, all grubby, and they look more "worn in" I guess.

Hee, you're talking to someone who compulsively picks up bits of rusty metal.  Yeah, the grubby mechanics side is cool. I also squee over the elegant stuff! Soo many variations to steampunk, how could one ever get bored?
