Random bits glued on from bead and broken jewelry and random stuff stash-I think I used a tiny fuse and the point of an ink pen-and lots of skinny beads on 'MO'.

What could be more romantic than chocolates and a raygun? The vintage valentine covered the whitman's name nicely. Has a hanger on the back.

24  From bath salts to vases! in CHALLENGE 107 ENTRIES by bookstorebabe on: March 09, 2015 04:02:32 PM
This was from an old drugstore basket of bath products, and I saved the glass bottles and bamboo tray to do something with 'someday'.  So, I painted the clear bottles with lots of green and gold, and I kept the labels, because they were pretty. The bottles are painted inside and out, I wanted depth.  I had two matching metal flower charms, and a third from a broken earring that was close enough! I E600'd them to the front, over the 'green tea bath' writing. ^_^ I removed the corks because I like them as vases. I think they'd look perfect with some lucky bamboo.

25  Re: Fiber/Mixed Media Jewelry Swap, SU by 1/14, SO by 2/28 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by bookstorebabe on: January 01, 2015 11:57:08 AM
It's been a long time since I've made mixed media jewelry, with or without fabric! But I found a couple ofpics of some older stuff.
This pin was in sad shape, the metal was worn and gnarly looking, so I painted it purple, and made a fan out of lace, and replaced missing rhinestones with pearl beads.

I sold this one and then wished I'd kept it! Paint and beads and collage, the only fiber is the green leather wrapped around the frame.

26  More reavmped mirrors in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by bookstorebabe on: December 04, 2014 05:30:44 PM
I salvaged an old oval mirror and revamped it. The frame was full of hairline cracks to fill  in, almost all of the scroll work on the top was missing, too. Filled in, painted, sealed, new hanger, and beads and such to decorate the top.
Not a great pic,but it shows the size and shape.

This pic shows the top. And look at the pretty edging on the frame!

The before picture.

This one is a tiny wooden thrift store mirror, painted silver, and fancied up.

There's a couple more I need to post later!

27  Pumpkin bread in Recipes and Cooking Tips by bookstorebabe on: November 27, 2014 04:22:17 PM
So, for the first time I roasted some pumpkin and froze pumpkin puree-had to do something with it, right?
This pumpkin bread came out moist and tasty and almost like cake. Next time I'm going to cut the sugar back a bit.
I managed to snag a pic before it was all gone. ^_^

I looked up several recipes online to get a rough idea of proportions then just winged it from there.

1 cup pumpkin puree-I put it in a colander to thaw out and drain. This recipe would probably be okay with 1 cup of canned pumpkin instead-that's what I'm doing when the puree is used up.
1 and 1/3 cup flour
2 beaten eggs
2/3 cup white sugar and 1/3 brown sugar-next time I'm trying just 1/3 cup of each
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 stick melted butter-I used real  butter, and salted because it's what I had on hand
1 teaspoon baking soda

I beat the eggs, added the vanilla, melted butter, pumpkin, and sugar and mixed it well. sifted and mixed the flour, spices, and baking soda, then added them and stirred it all up. Don't beat it to death, you just want it well mixed with no flour pockets.
Poured it into a well greased loaf pan, and baked it at 350 degrees for at least 45 minutes. Maybe longer, it was until I could stick a knife in it and it came out clean, and it had started to pull away from the edges of the pan.
Let it cool a few minutes, dumped it on a wire rack to cool a bit more. Devoured it warm and buttered.
Next time I add pecans and dried cranberries, maybe raisins, too! That would have gone so well in this.
Again, it came out so sweet and moist I could have iced it and served it as cake! So yeah, next batch will have less sugar and nuts and fruit added.

Cute little snap pouches! Those are always so handy to have.
Comic book clock, featuring twelve images of The Vision over the years, from the Avengers.
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=436723.0

And I cut up and baked a pumpkin and froze 12 cups of pumpkin puree! And made the best pumpkin bread ever.
It came out sweet enough to be cake, so I'm cutting back the sugar next batch. I barely got a pic before it was all gone. One more batch to be sure, then I'm posting my recipe.

Now if I could just perfect squash soup...it's getting there, but isn't quite right yet.

29  Comic book clock-The Vision, from the Avengers in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by bookstorebabe on: November 11, 2014 05:10:22 PM
So, I picked up three plain wall clocks new for 1.00 from a Dollar General sale for eventual repurposing, and fiddled with one last night. I started by cutting out random pages from some old cheap comic books-ones that were damaged, in the quarter bin, ect! But it didn't click. Then, in an old Marvel Presents, they had a page with 'The many faces of The Vision!' Twelve images, twelve hours? Perfect.
They're a bit random and off kilter on purpose, so no having the precise time. ^_^ I painted the background black, then glued away. On the back of the clock I pasted the list of the twelve artists who had drawn those versions of The Vision over the years.
The Vision has been described an the android with the heart of gold, and I know at one point he was married to the Scarlet Witch, who is Quicksilver's sister and Magneto's daughter. Nope, he wasn't in any of the new crop of superhero movies, but the Avenger's roster has changed a lot over the years.
