So, I bought a serger on eBay. It was already threaded, but I re-threaded it according to the directions, because I wasn't sure it hadn't shifted around in shipping. I tried a test run, but the thread wouldn't chain, and all the threads pulled back out of the fabric, and it would only work for a few moments before jamming. I hand-turned the wheel while watching the loopers, and it looks like the upper looper isn't moving at all. I might still have a threading issue, but I'm sure that all the pieces should move! I have never used a serger, so I really have no idea what to do. I've been googling all day with no solution. Is it really broken?
My 2 cents on alterations: Get them done in a timely matter. I am such a procrastinator. I have had two pairs of pants waiting to be hemmed for my cousin. I feel so bad that I didn't get to them, and now I don't even want to touch them. I'm getting paid too.
