1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Re: UK craft fairs - so annoyed! on: November 16, 2006 07:43:11 AM
i'm in the frozen wastes of Aberdeenshire, only moved up in september and so far found no local craft fairs, Glasgows a bit far for me to travel as i have a toddler but would love to find something a bit more local (i make jewellery and my own beads, fused glass pendents, coasters etc)

i did a few craft fairs in Cheshire before i moved, both where terrible for different reasons

the first was good as the organiser didn't let 2 with the same craft attend but had put it on on a saturday when the local school fate was on on the same day

the second had let people sel mass produced stuff and hadn't advertised it all and was unbealivably unprofessional!!

7  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Making Glass Beads on: October 09, 2006 05:50:21 AM
i've got a bead making kit like that, it's a good starter kit, and i can work with whatever colours i like, people often say the hothead torch that comes with the kit isn't hot enough, it takes ages to melt the glass, transparent colours scum etc but i've not had many problems.

clear can scum easier on a hothead but as for it not being hot enough and the slow melting time, i found that perfect when i was starting out and i was getting perfect round beads in less than a week

if you know your going to make beads for a long time and you've got the money to spend on a good set up then go for a more expensive torch, but if you wanna try it out and see how you go, go for that one, i love my little torch, it's not let me down so far
