1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How can I tell if a Balaclava (face mask) is big enough while on needles? on: November 25, 2008 03:21:00 PM
I am making my DH a balaclava for being outdoors (it's one of those masks that warms over your neck/head but with an opening for your face). I am just finishing with the ribbing around the facial area... unfortunately, I can't tell if the ribbing is adequate enough.
I am using size 0 needles, and would normally just use a needle and piece of yarn to take ALL of the stitches off the needles to try it on- with this, the eye of the needle is wider than the stitch, so I can't even take them off!

Are there any other solutions?? Any ideas?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I tried on this hat today in the store. It was cheap already, but I would like to knit it.

It looks like the beginning is K1P1 rib, and then k1p1 (with a lot of extra stitched added).

Anyone have an idea of a pattern so that I can knit it? I'm really not good at this! It looks like to me the beginning ribbing of the hat is knit at a tighter gauge than the body of the hat... does that look right to you?

Beautiful! Do you have a pattern?

Wow that's awesome! I wish my first knitting projects were that great. Keep working at it, you've got some real talent! I have been knitting for a couple years, and have been scared off by the pom-poms... I'm impressed by yours... they look great!
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Ideas for fingerless (with flaps) gloves for men? on: September 05, 2008 10:09:44 AM
My husband is a hunter, and I would love to make him a pair of gloves/mittens that he can use while it's cold. I would like for it to have a flap so his fingers CAN be covered up as needed.

I have seen dashing, but would like some other ideas as well.

Also, if anyone has a pattern for a "gaitor" (those masks that go over faces with a large hole for the face) I'd be forever grateful.

Thanks!

What kind of yarn did you use to knit this? It is AMAZING! I am working on knitting a plain grey one at the moment, but if I can get the hang of it, I'd love to knit a colorful one like yours!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Amy Butler Weekender Bag sew-a-long? on: March 29, 2008 08:48:21 PM
I would love to join. I tried to commission this on Etsy, and found out that it will be $160 or so dollars. Unfortunately, I can not sew very well! I guess this wouldn't be a great thing to try?
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Alternative Guestbook Ideas on: January 02, 2008 12:07:21 PM
We are doing a coffee table photo book and having people sign the white space, or wherever else they want.

We are also possibly buying a white guitar (FH is a guitarist) and having people sign it and hanging it as decoration in our home.

My FH's brother is an amateur photographer, and I got the idea from another person's "courtship story." Here is my photo:
