1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Huge Vinyl Movie posters on: August 28, 2009 06:38:28 AM
I am the proud new owner of several of those huge 8X5 ft, or bigger maybe, movie banners.  They are made of a slightly stiff vinyl.  Two are Tim Burton's Alice (squee!!) and one is Ponyo (also very cool).  I was thinking about making bags from them, but I am not sure if the vinyl would hold up or if it might become brittle, or even if it would really use these to their full potential. The pockets for the dowels are sew with very long stitches, so I know I'd be able to sew it.  Ponyo is the same on both sides, so no sacrifice there.  Both Alice posters have different images on each side, so I'll have to be choosy there.

They are Awesome and I would love to just hang them whole, but I think it'd be a bit much and even then I'd have to pick who shows and who hides.  What do you think would be the best way to use them?
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Blanket just isn't squaring up... on: May 17, 2007 09:32:01 AM
I am knitting a dishcloth/diagonal baby blanket with some super bulky yarn for the local Red Cross Heart'n Hands guild.  I keep unraveling and starting over and cannot seem to get it square.  I am using size 15 needles.  Would using size 13 make it better or worse?  Any other suggestions?  I really like the way the yarn looks on the diagonal (it is very bright and variegated.)

Any thoughts would be very welcome Smiley
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Seeking Spiderman Sock Yarn on: April 07, 2007 07:51:38 AM
I mentioned Spiderman socks to my 3y son once, and the idea stuck in his head.  I can't find anything that would work locally.  I would -love- a striping or variegated sock yarn in red black and blue, but if not, I'll stripe some solids myself.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance Smiley
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knit Cape on: March 18, 2007 12:23:07 PM
I had a full length hooded cape in my hands at one point, nearly bought it, but the vintage clothing store I was working at closed without notice and the next time I worked my "to buy soon" pile was gone, lovely cape with it.

Has anyone seen a pattern for something like this?  It might be a monster, but it would be awesome to try.

The original I saw was a pale dusty rose, not my color, but I desprately wanted it anyway.  I'd not knitted a stitch at that point, but I still could tell someone had spent many hours on it.
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet Yoke? on: March 18, 2007 12:10:21 PM
I had a shirt that I loved and more till it fell to pieces, it had a crochet yoke and the rest of the shirt was a really flowy light cotton.  I have found several filet crochet yokes for vintage nighties, but this is not quite the style I am looking for.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / A question about quantity... on: December 15, 2006 04:49:00 PM
Every year I make vast amounts of cookies and truffle for my friends and family as gifts for the holidays.  Each household gets an assortment of several different kinds of cookies (4 this year) and some truffles.  Each year I wonder if people are happy with the amount that they get... but I know they'd never want to hurt my feelings, and who wouldn't want more cookies, right?

So, here it is :  How many of each do you think would be fair?  I usually give about two of each kind of cookie per person and the same with the truffles, with a minimum of 6 of each cookie and 6 truffles total, even if there is only one person.  Does this sound about right, or would you be left wanting?

Thanks for the input!  Cheesy
