1  COOKING / Dessert / Edible Christmas trees - photo intense on: December 14, 2007 11:49:31 PM
I saw something like this in Martha Stewart's magazine and since her recipes don't usually work out for me, I adapted it and made my own!

They are waffle ice cream cones with chocolate cake baked inside. We decided to go with a white-ish color (added vanilla which makes it slightly yellow) but you could just as easily add in some green or any other food coloring. We finished them off with powdered sugar and sprinkles in the shape of snowflakes.

My 10-year-old sister loved decorating them.

With a 3 1/2 inch Santa!

From above.

These were so much fun to make! Let me know if any of you are interested in seeing the recipe and I'll type it up with my variations, too. They'd also be fantastic with a thin layer of icing and white chocolate chips!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Recon- from skirt to toddler dress! (photos) on: June 04, 2007 04:53:56 PM
I found this great skirt at a garage sale for $.50, but didn't know what to do with it- until I held it up to my younger sister and saw that it was the perfect length to be a full-length dress for her!

It had this pleating on it that worked very well with the natural shape of a dress, which made shaping really easy. It also had an invisible zipper in the back, so I simply centered the dress by that and used the leftover  fabric to make straps.

After (I had a hard time getting a good full-length shot, sorry!):

She loves wearing it!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Some things I made! (image hefty) on: June 03, 2007 01:33:17 AM
Hey everyone! Thanks to all of your great suggestions I made a lot of wonderful (although I do have a bit of a bias) crafty things for Mother's Day!

I made a miniature meal, with fruit kabobs on toothpicks, all from scratch burgers, a mini-quiche and a mini-pizza:

A link to the thread with a miniature version of my family:

And then I shot and edited a DVD montage-thing and wrapped it with white newsprint that I stamped balloons and adorable pigs onto, with a fabric flower:
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Miniature version of my family (pictures!) on: June 03, 2007 01:27:24 AM
So this was a Mother's Day present for my mom (it took me forever to post)- I made miniature versions of the members of my family, with a couple of the shirts inspired by this tutorial:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=165311.0

I covered a box with decorative paper and then knitted a comforter and sewed teeny pillows for the bed, the chair was made by cutting a styrofoam cup in half horizontally and then taping the larger half to the bottom.

It's not really visible in the pictures, but there's also a demim rug that I used bleach on to add a lighter color in a square in the center, and the floor is textured brown paper meant to look like wood flooring. This is all set in a lovely shoe box, that already had that great circular pattern (thank you Target)!

Thank you all for the inspiration!

5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Blue baby dress (2 pictures!) on: May 10, 2007 06:21:12 PM
I made this dress for my sister from a pattern, if anyone would like it I'd be happy to go and check what it is, but at the moment I'm *way* too lazy to go look.

Anyway, it fits her pretty well and was my first piece of clothing and first time I used a pattern!

Unfortunately the cute pictures I took crashed along with my computer (argh!), but here are a couple new ones:

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Just a little something extra needed... on: May 01, 2007 07:10:28 PM
For the most part I already know (and have) what I'm giving my mom for Mother's Day, but I'd really like to craft a little something extra.

She wears earrings, but I've never made them before- any suggestions about this? Tutorials, maybe?

She also is a big sucker for anything sentimental (runs in the family), so anything like that would be wonderful.

Sorry to add another one of those "I don't know what to get her..." posts on here, but you all have such great ideas! Thank you!
7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Silverware on: October 22, 2006 12:40:30 PM
Hola!

I have about 5 spoons and 3 forks made out of silver that I need to use for something. I'd love to make spoon jewelry (rings, etc) but don't know how- does anyone make jewelry with silverware on here that would be willing to let me know how you go about doing it?

As for the forks, I'm completely lost, there. Is there a good craft to do with forks?

Thanks!
