1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I really am.... on: October 25, 2006 11:07:28 PM
betzi!! thankl you, thats a brilliant Idea...! I Never thought of a childrens learn to knit book! They also need to learn to purl and many other things. Plus the Instructions would lean toward someone who knows not alot about knitting.

lupinbunny, you shouldnt blush! bespecticaled linked to your scarf! Its absolutley adorable...!! I think I will be doing that with the fuzzier yarn, and im going to buy something similar to what you used to make myself one, Its gorgeous! You should be really proud Smiley Also has really easy to understand instructions!    And thanks for the tip about kniting two together.. when I was learning to purl I always accidently increased, and had a thicker scarf at one end. I never thought of that!

Thanks!

Wow thanks you guys.. this means alot. kinda makes me sound like a cheap tightarse or soemthing... But i really wanted to make everyone their gifts this year. Especially for the people I know will appreciate it alot.

ZombieFlesh, I didnt know that about the VVV pattern thing.... I tried to do something which was knit a row purl a row and also something that was k2p2 but it just didnt want to work. So i will try again and not give up when it doesnt look right!!

bespecticaled, thankyou! that is a gorgeous scarf! thankyou so much, the last yarn i said will look really good with that pattern. I think i will try it out.

Im definatley going to check out th stitch n bitch book... If none of the craft or book stores have it do you think libraries would have it..? Im not sure...

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will keep you up to date with any progress I have

I might have to get someone to show me. If I can find someone who knows how to knit. My mum cant, and i dont know of anyone who lives near me. But i think my nana does knit.

When i was learning to purl, i was using a fairly basic "straight" acryllic type yarn... so that could be why.

anyway, I will try again. Because you gotta keep trying. I was kinda hoping there would be something that looked fancy but wasnt really.

The blue yarn is actually the thinner of the three, I couldnt find the yarn online anywhere, but i will have another look. All i know is that the fibers keep going up my nose when i re-rolled it into a ball.

Thanks both of you, bombgirl i will check out that book, and see what its like.

Saor, thanks for your advice. I liked the blue yarn too, was the first i picked up. I also picked it up in black but couldnt think of who to give it to, the other colours picked themselves out for the people.

a glutton for punishment.

I cannot knit. Pure and Simple. Well, I can do the basic stitch.... but I cant purl. I watched the purl video a million times on knitting help website. But it just ends up looking the same when I do it.

But, being the smart girl I am....... *rolls eyes* I decided I was going to knit three scarves for christmas when I saw this yarn on clearance at spotlight. It was selling for $0.50 a ball Australian.

I tried to find a site, which shows the yarn, cause i dont know if you will know what the yarn is, or the colours or anything.

I bought, 3 balls of Moda Vera Arcobaleno yarn, the colour number is 10507 (thats not the dye lot though)

3 balls of Moda Vera, caramella yarn, colour 4739

and also 3 balls of moda dea, Vixen in 'blue me away'
http://www.modadea.com/vixen.htm

Does any one know of any decent patterns which would be easy apart from plain stitches?

maybe nothing exists...? Also, is this yarn I bought any good..? or is it really really bad?
5  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: local corset making supplies on: October 24, 2006 01:31:27 AM
Hi, I dont make corsets.... but am very interested in any info you give/get cause i want to make them, just havent gotten around to it yet.

My friend makes them herself. She bought a large roll of metal packing tape, which is sprung/spring steel, but alot cheaper.... Im not sure where she got it from, she just cuts it to the length needed an uses a dremel to round the edges off. and then dips the end in eamel paint. which brings me to my next point.

Using enamel house type paint is cheaper and works the same as the plasti-dip , you just dip the ends in the paint letit dry and do it again, or just oit once if its thick enough.

also, I wouldnt use cable ties for the smaller bones, because they dont really do anythig. and don't do the same job as metal ones.

If you lace the corset properly it will bend and buckle, and corsets are not meant to do that.

I'm not sure where abouts you are. But have you considered asking perhaps some furniature stores that have the non creased type vinyl for their couches or w/e?

Or maybe also other smaller fabrc stores?
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: My Country doesn't have that Round 7 on: October 22, 2006 06:08:09 AM
There goes one thing I had as an idea for if I was in this swap...

I just read in the news paper that Vegimite has been banned from the U.S. Because it has Folic Acid and because of a law saying that It is only allowed to be added into bread and cereals.

So Vegimite is Illegal in the US Sad But it tastes so good!!!

( I can still hear the cheers of the American peoples tastebuds Tongue )
