11  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / DarthSqurl's ATC Gallery (Updated!!) on: December 28, 2006 07:35:15 PM
1/3/2007

These are my first ATCs! I was inspired by the scavenger hunt, and since my mom goes Christmas crazy, we have tons of stuff leftover.

Here's the first:

It's made with lots of ribbon (i wove the background), the nativity star from one of the ten or so nativity christmas cards we had (i'm certain no one will notice that one baby jesus scene went missing), some wrapping paper and tissue paper. (In case you can't tell in the scan, it was "The sun is a g-class star" and the circles are supposed to be mercury, venus and earth).

Here's the second:

It's made with tissue paper (the background; it's actually pale gold/yellow but the scanner makes it look brown), some ribbon, and cut up bits of an instruction manual. (you can't see them, they're in the green rectangle which is actually a little book that opens!)

I'd love comments/feedback on my first ATCs!
12  UNITED STATES / Maryland / LYS in Annapolis area??? on: December 12, 2006 11:14:47 AM
So I'm sick of shopping for yarn at JoAnns and Michael's (if I see one more skein of lionbrand homespun...) and I'm desparately seeking a yarn shop in the Annapolis area.  I'm based in Pasadena, so up north would be ok too...in other words, anywhere in Anne Arundel county.

Thanks!!
13  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Dying cotton thread on: December 09, 2006 12:59:35 PM
I wasn't sure where to post this, so here's my predicament/question:

So I'm crocheting some bookmarks with plain white thread because I didn't want to spend a ton on different spools of thread and just bought a giant one of plain white.  What can I use to dye the bookmarks/thread without going out and buying a billion different packs of RIT dye.  I think I may have read somewhere that someone used watered down acrylics...but I may be making that up.  Smiley

Anyhow, what's the best/cheapest way to dye cotton thread?

Thanks!!
14  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Where can I buy.... on: December 05, 2006 08:22:22 PM
Kiss clasps to put on purses that I make? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find a site that sells just the clasps...sigh.

Here's a pic with the type of clasp I want to buy:

Thanks in advance!
15  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Little Princess/Secret Garden/Frances Hodgson Burnett Swap? on: November 20, 2006 04:42:14 PM
So I'm completley obsessed with A Little Princess (it's my favorite children's book) and the Secret Garden and I think a swap on the theme would be really fun! Just imagine all the stuff and goodies people could make...is anyone with me? I can't organize swaps yet or else I would totally jump all over this one!
16  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Desparate for suggestions for a space minimizing craft storage area on: October 30, 2006 01:07:30 PM
So recently I've moved back in with my parents after a (very) brief stint at grad school. I'm going to be here long enough to make it worth re-doing and such. My main concern: fitting my things (I have 3 decent sized bookcases) and my craft stuff too. My first goal is going to be clean out my closet and such, getting rid of stuff I don't need (the crafter's worst nightmare, everything always has so much potential!).

So to sum up, any suggestions for a way to store my crafty things and not let it take over my room?

Thanks in advance!
17  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Crochet with wire on: October 19, 2006 07:34:37 AM
I really want to learn how to make those beautiful bracelets by crocheting with wire and beads. I consider myself pretty decent at crocheting with yarn and such, and I want to make the jump to jewelry. Any suggestions as to what type of wire, what size hook, how to put on beads, etc? In other words, how do I go about doing this?

Thanks a bunch, in advance!   Grin
18  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Fun and easy little ipod holders. on: October 09, 2006 07:37:09 PM
I've been lurking for about a month and I decided its high time for me to actually post something! Yay!

I decided I was sick of carrying around my precious i-pod in a stupid (and annoying) 1.99 t-shirt shaped holder I got at Old Navy, so I crocheted myself one in about an hour with this neat crochet thread I found at Jo-Ann's.  Basically it was an excuse to buy and use the thread. My holder turned out so well, I made one for my sister too as a Christmas present (the only difficulty here is keeping it somewhere so I don't lose it....)

Here's both of them together:

And the blue one (mine, there's a nice little vintage-looking button on it but its hard to see in the pic b/c its transparent):

And the rainbow one, for my sister:
