1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Old CDs / AOL CDs / AOL CD Cases on: November 25, 2003 03:15:21 PM
Cool little clocks for everyone on your christmas list - paint or decoupage on the c.dl, buy a clock kit at Michaels or Joanns and assemble as per directions.  voila - something for (almost) nothing!
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re:Used Bicycle Parts on: November 25, 2003 03:10:47 PM
I've seen a really cool wall-mounted magazine rack made from a bicycle tire rim.  The tire and all the spokes had been removed and then wire had been strung through the spoke holes in a back and forth pattern to create taut, straight lines.  Magazines get draped over the wire and then the whole she-bang was hung on the wall.  The one I saw was the original chrome (and about $65!), but you could probably spray paint to match your decor.  Just about the right size for a bathroom reading rack. . .  Let me know if you try this; I always plan to (heh heh)!
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Board for Bartering/Trading/Selling on: November 20, 2003 04:18:45 PM
Would people on this site like a category for swapping craft goods?  Seems like a good way to get supplies on limited income.  If this site isn't the place - do any of you know of such a site?  I've looked at lots of barter sites, but mostly people are trading books, music and such.  Another idea is to trade completed crafts for supplies, craft books and magazines, etc.  Thanks for feedback - Laura
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re:Cigar box purses on: November 18, 2003 10:55:45 PM
Oh Lordie!  Someone posted a link to www.mantofev.com on this site - I happened to notice they have bamboo handles for cigar box purses for 4.75.  It's a totally addictive site for craftsters - all kinds of goodies!!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re:Ideas for Christmas gifts on: November 13, 2003 08:29:12 AM
Here's an original idea - I made these to keep myself organized and then realized what great gifts they'd make.
You need:
(individually or bulk) 3-ring binders with clear plastic covers
Clear plastic sheet protectors
Divider pages (the kind with the tabs)

Your gift notebook can be for:
Recipes
Craft Ideas
Home improvement ideas
Household Finances
etc.

Make a cool cover - my recipe book has a silkscreen of an eggplant- and slide inside the clear plastic.
You might jumpstart the notebook by adding a few recipes or decorating the divider pages.  Put a Christmas greeting and suggestions inside the first clear sheet protector, then add about 10 sheet protectors after each divider page.

I have one of these to keep craft ideas for me - with categories like knitting, dolls, quilting, etc.  I save pages from mags, copies from library books, etc.

I also have a "rainy day" notebook for my  kids and it has a few holiday projects, kitchen projects, recipes for playdough - you get the idea.  You could decorate the cover with the kids pictures. . .

This is a gift that the recipient will use and turn to for years to come!  I'm in favor of that - fewer doo-dads to dust!
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Here? Ornament Ideas? on: November 12, 2003 11:15:03 PM
I am new tonight and not sure if this is the best category, but I'm looking for some ideas for handmade christmas ornaments - nothing that involves styrofoam balls or sequins, please!  thanks, Laura

Unless you have your heart set on a clutch type handle I have seen these made with over-the-shoulder type straps of leather with beads and leather/bead tassels where the strap is attached to the bag - they look great!
