21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: "_____ in a box" gift ideas. on: November 25, 2004 02:51:57 PM
This is an amazing idea!  I have two ideas for Christmas:

For my stepdad who is a big hunter/fisherman
OUTDOORSMAN IN A BOX!

And for my boyfriend who just started a band:
ROCKSTAR IN A BOX!

But I'm having trouble thinking of some things to go in here....anyone have any good ideas?

I have a huge bulliten board in my room that used to be covered with pictures.  I want to do something different with it.  Any different ideas?  Huh

Thanks!

Haha I think freezer costs about the same as wax paper, if not...it's still pretty cheap.

Ok, now i have a q. (love the war shirt btw, my sis used to sing that ALL the time!) is it ok to use wax paper? or is that the same thing as freezer paper? i dont know!!
maybe i'll make a war shirt for her...yay!

Hmm...good question...it's not the same as wax paper, that stuff has two sides of wax I think.  I can honestly say I can't give you a good answer, I'd just go with freezer paper and don't take a chance.

does the freezer paper leave waxiness on your shirt when your done?

Absolutely not!  It's perfectly fine with no residue.

print you stencil on regular printer paper, tape it to the freezerpaper and x-acto knife the stencil out.
place the freezer paper wax side down on your shirt/fabric/whatever and iron. (i can only imagine you want a fairly low setting, just enough to melt the wax)
paint over your stencil, let dry and peel it off.

Amazing!  This is exactly what I was going to say except in a more "tutorial like form"  but that's exactly what I do in a nutshell.
Just one more thing I'd like to add, though...for the iron just make sure it's on a dry setting (without steam) and iron over it, wait for it to cool, then go back over the parts you think may be trouble spots, you know the spots with lots of detail.  If more details are needed or an actual tutorial is wanted, I'll definately explain.

Maybe I'm just a dumb blonde, but I still don't quite understand how you do it. Can you give exact instructions on how to do it please? Because I don't totally love the way my stenciling is coming out, and I love how good yours are. Please share!!  Smiley

I'll try to post a tutorial for you as soon as I get a chance...I promise.
