i'd be intrested in one in knox too!
i live like halfway between knoxville and chattanooga (closer to knox)
and as much as i'd love to go to one in nashville,
i probably wouldnt be able to (the long drive, there and back)

but if anyone starts something like this in knoxville (or needs help with something like it)
let me know!! i'd be glad to help out!
i know a few other crafters in knoxville who might be intrestd in it as well.

369  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / alternitives to the feebased sites out there on: September 27, 2006 08:15:29 AM
so i didn't mean for my first post n here to be my preachyness about some of the sites i uber love about,
but it seems to always happen,
(don't worry, I'm sure I'll be posting oodles in other categories too!)

so I've noticed that alot of other crafters spend oodles on expensive websites and stores,
i almost went that route, but i couldn't afford the costs of ebay, or a merch store,
hell, i cant afford the small %age that etsy takes!
so i spent forever (well a few months) searching, and i came up with a couple things,

first for store fronts,
Blujay.com,
they offer a free store, unlimited items, and ALOT of features, (and they've been adding alot more lately too) its free, stays free, and the featured products on their site, randomly generated!
I've got my stuff on there (at least most of it, I'm working on getting it all on there)

and as for websites,
if you can drag n drop, the coffee cup editor is awsome
they have a free version, with built in ftp
Coffee Cup's Free Section

and as for webspace,
i spent alot of money and time getting a nice site up hosted with yahoo, after it NOT being up, after more than 2 weeks of phone calls and emails, i cancelled my account, and searched for free space with no ads, and found atspace.com
unlimited bandwidth, and 50mb of space (only downfall is you cannot link or even have the words ebay, paypal, myspace, or amazon, but you can add spaces and get around it)

i also use Pretty Borders and an online HTML Editor (a WYSIWYG editor)
both free, for my ads (which I'm currently in the midst of cleaning up and making look pretty!)

the reason I'm making this my first post is
I've been a crafter since i was like 2 (ask my mom)
and I've been trying to make a living from it for about 9 years
(good years and bad years)
and its been hell finding decent ways to promote and sell my items,
(I've tried selling on my livejournal, in forems, and just word of mouth)
but I've found its best when you have something a tad nicer looking (maybe my mom was right?!)

and after the hell I've been though over the years i figured I'd share some of my triumphs with others who'd appreciate it Smiley

anyways,
i'm done spouting, and i'm off to browse and mingle in the rest of the forem  Grin
