I made myself a nice warm pair of sweat pants. Archie print, because a)my mom had like 5 meters of it from when I was a child and I'm also in the destash craftalong, and b) because sometimes you just gotta be a kid at heart.

From roving anarchist I got this gibbous style eclectic hat. I also got a bunch of chocolate, you can't go wrong there.

I told my partners I love bright colours and thus any bird that's vivid, make believe included. They both provided in spades  Grin

From geekgirl1000100 I got a awesome quilled peacock. I've never seen a quilled necklace before, which makes it super cool and unique! Look at all the detail! Love it.

From rjannelle I got a enormous (and I say that in a delighted voice, I love spotlight peices) pendant, with a secret compartment in the back. I wore it to work Thursday. All of my four year olds individually commented on it, one of the three year olds asked what store I bought it at, and the 11 month old tried to put it in her mouth. I think you've got everyone's seal of approval.
(we also did a small extra, for her part I got a cool keychain from the Universal Studios Harry Potter park)

15  Re: 2016 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by gala_apples on: January 30, 2016 07:45:33 PM
So I was going through the fabric stash to find something whiteish to get the last part of the January challenge, and came across this:

White, yes, but also with a busy and bright enough pattern that if I get some juice or paint or something on it, it's not as bad as a plain white shirt. Plus kids like butterflies. I only had a bit of it though, so I went through my plain colours boxes. I found two different scraps of teal ribbing, obviously kept for cuffs, and another less-than-a-metre cut of purple. This shirt used up 4 pieces of fabric  Grin

I'm posting a side picture, because the sleeve is where most of the interest is. The back and front are both all the fabric shown.

The first sewn shirt of the year! It fits the January theme stripes, obviously. It could maybe fit white, since that's about all the white I wear to work (daycare), but I might as well use the excuse to make a second shirt next week, right?

I used up all of the yellow/white/blue striped material. I still have about a metre of the blue left, but I love blue, so it'll easily be made something else.

18  Aqua & Silver Shrine in Winter Holidays by gala_apples on: December 27, 2015 08:02:42 PM
My partner in the 12 days of christmas swap only uses aqua, pink and silver for her decorations. Working in those shades was an interesting constraint.

This started as a cutlery tray, dimensions about 14x24. I added four extra walls by glueing two layers of corrogated cardboard together, covering it in modgepodge and tissue paper, and then hot gluing them into the tray. Behind the reindeer are styrofoam balls painted with about five layers of glitter paint. It came out reeeeally thin, and I wanted a solid look.

19  Dyed Sock Yarn in Dyeing: Completed Projects by gala_apples on: December 27, 2015 07:36:41 PM
I've never dyed anything before, but my twelve days of christmas swap partner had a whole pinterest board of hand dyed yarn, so I thought it was time to give it a try. I used the method where you soak the yarn in vinegar, then mix different shades of food colouring and inject it with a needle-less syringe. I'm not sure if that has an actual name?

This is what I ended up with:

primarily aqua blue, bright green, fuschia and dark purple

The picture of the back side shows some of the variant colours, the lighter blues and greens

I had a bunch of fun with this project. I guess the next step is figuring out how to turn my big oval of yarn into one of those perfectly twisted cylinders you see on etsy.  Smiley
