1  Sunshine Shrine in CHALLENGE 112 ENTRIES by gala_apples on: May 07, 2016 07:29:16 PM

I decided to make a shrine for this challenge. I ended up going to the dollar store four times, and each time a bought a bunch of things I wasn't sure if I was going to use. Here's most of my multiple receipts, one disappeared:

The challenge rules said 10 usd, or convert to your country's currency. That's 12.90 Canadian as of today, a month ago when I checked before going to the store for the first time it was 14ish. The list of things I actually ended up using:

Yellow acrylic paint- 1.25
seed beads- 2.00
bird house- 1.50
animals- 1.50
jewellry box- 2.50
flowers- 1.25
craft pack (buttons and more seed beads)- 1.25
3mm ribbon- 1.25
sheet of foam- 1.00
for a grand total of... 13.50

I started with a large 7x7 inch wooden jewelry box. I unscrewed the hinges and stashed away the top. I'm sure I'll find some use for it later. I cut up a free cardboard box from the liquor store to build my own walls, then everything got about 7 coats of the poor quality yellow paint before it was bright enough for my tastes. I had these wooden letters from Michaels, I traced them onto foam and painted them to match. This picture doesn't show the ribbon, but it circles the outside edge of the box, to cover the screw holes for the hinges. The one little cheat I did on this project was I used a few drops of my own white paint to lighten the yellow for the birdhouse and the letters.

The shrine is off to Edelc, since it worked so perfectly for the Box of Sunshine swap. I hope she likes it!

Re April's challenges, I managed to do nature, and pink. I started a paisley project, but did not get it done yet.

the arms go to about a inch or two above my elbow, and the fabric is really lightweight, good for spring-wear.

doesn't everyone need a pair of flowery pants?

So for March, one of the challenges was games. My favourite game to play in the world is called Pandemic. Me and a few of my friends have a standing Friday date to play it. In the core game you travel the world trying to stop 4 plagues that have broken out, different characters have different skillsets that aid this. There's a yellow plague in South America, Africa, and lower North America, a blue plague in part of Europe and upper North America, a black plague in part of Europe, and Asia, and a red plauge in part of Asia and Austrailia. We like the game so much we've bought like 3 different expansions. One of those is Pandemic: On The Brink, which adds a 5th plague, a purple plague.

I mentioned many pages ago that I was working on making notecards for a friend of my dad's. I decided that I could incorporate this challenge into that. But that meant that however I made Pandemic notecards, they needed to be nice-old-lady friendly, no skulls or zombies or other forms of death. So I made Death Flowers.  Smiley (and a travelling card, for extra measure)

So i got a whole whack of stuff from Ladybugsandbumblebees. We talked about what we were sending each other, and then she just shrugged and added a bunch of spoilage. Think I'll have to make her more too.  Cheesy

A kit, and unembellished patches for me to play with.

monochrome red, and horoscope 'cancer'

LGBT and gore

Thanks so much LBABB, it was great swapping with you!

7  Cassette Shirt in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by gala_apples on: April 03, 2016 04:41:07 PM
About a million years ago, I saw a post of this shirt: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=345518.0 I've always loved it, but it wasn't until March's destash challenge that I decided to use up a bunch of self mixed paint shades and make my own.

I tried to take the best contrast picture I could. I'm not sure if you can tell, but I've used 8 different colours. One benefit of being plus sized-- more room to do art on a shirt.

I made myself a nice warm pair of sweat pants. Archie print, because a)my mom had like 5 meters of it from when I was a child and I'm also in the destash craftalong, and b) because sometimes you just gotta be a kid at heart.
