1  Re: Giant Multi Theme Swap Round 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by gala_apples on: September 26, 2016 08:18:44 PM
I got my package from Ryn today and I freakin love it. I think the pair of mediums are my favourite, I literally have been going back and forth which one I will wear tomorrow, and which one has to wait until Wednesday. Without further ado...

Stars!

I love the colour of the shirt and I've been told it glows in the dark. And I love every variation of the 'stuff in a bottle' pendant, I could happily own a million.

Ocean life!

I love stamps, I've recently started printing my own fabric, so these make me very happy.

Frozen treats!

I can always use notecards, the tiny tags are adorable, and those are a very pretty, interesting version of math class 3d printables.

Rainbows!

I don't know how I'm supposed to pick which one to wear first, honestly.

Cupcakes!

I think the pendant might be made out of coloured hot glue? If so, that's so freakin cool, it's got a really great texture to it.

2  Nature Inspired Pendants in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by gala_apples on: September 08, 2016 08:30:54 PM
Based on a pin of a swap partner's, I made this thread covered twig necklace:

I also used many layers of nail polish and floral pebbles to make these galaxy pendants:

This is a crystal inside a rock that was found in Colorado by my friend:

And then these are less reconstructed, but they also went with the nature theme... a decopauge pendant and a polyclay pendant imprinted with a leaf from a tree in my yard.

I got my patches from noodle-bug. They're both tiny and intricate, the red one is 2 inches.

6  Subversive Cards in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by gala_apples on: June 04, 2016 08:27:35 PM
The May destash challenge was to make something subversive. Without getting super preachy, I think gender norms are pretty damaging to kids, and set up unrealistic ideals for adults. I work at a daycare and thankfully all the staff agree. We strive to make sure all the kids know they can do anything, and like anything, and phrases like "boys will be boys" are NEVER said. Therefore, the first thing I thought when I saw the 'subversive' challenge was f**k gender.

7  Sunshine Shrine in CHALLENGE 113 ENTRIES by gala_apples on: May 07, 2016 07:29:16 PM

I decided to make a shrine for this challenge. I ended up going to the dollar store four times, and each time a bought a bunch of things I wasn't sure if I was going to use. Here's most of my multiple receipts, one disappeared:

The challenge rules said 10 usd, or convert to your country's currency. That's 12.90 Canadian as of today, a month ago when I checked before going to the store for the first time it was 14ish. The list of things I actually ended up using:

Yellow acrylic paint- 1.25
seed beads- 2.00
bird house- 1.50
animals- 1.50
jewellry box- 2.50
flowers- 1.25
craft pack (buttons and more seed beads)- 1.25
3mm ribbon- 1.25
sheet of foam- 1.00
for a grand total of... 13.50

I started with a large 7x7 inch wooden jewelry box. I unscrewed the hinges and stashed away the top. I'm sure I'll find some use for it later. I cut up a free cardboard box from the liquor store to build my own walls, then everything got about 7 coats of the poor quality yellow paint before it was bright enough for my tastes. I had these wooden letters from Michaels, I traced them onto foam and painted them to match. This picture doesn't show the ribbon, but it circles the outside edge of the box, to cover the screw holes for the hinges. The one little cheat I did on this project was I used a few drops of my own white paint to lighten the yellow for the birdhouse and the letters.

The shrine is off to Edelc, since it worked so perfectly for the Box of Sunshine swap. I hope she likes it!

Re April's challenges, I managed to do nature, and pink. I started a paisley project, but did not get it done yet.

the arms go to about a inch or two above my elbow, and the fabric is really lightweight, good for spring-wear.

doesn't everyone need a pair of flowery pants?
