1  Re: 2017 DeStash Along in Craftalongs by gala_apples on: February 18, 2017 12:16:51 AM
So I decided to take pictures of the sewing room as it is now. They're in a folder optimistically labelled "sewing room change", and I'm really hoping things look a bit different by the end of the year.

This is the view walking in the door:

From the door this is the right hand wall. Or part of it, it was hard to maneuver around enough to get clear pictures:

The dresser is four drawers high and entirely filled with patterns, and there's two laundry baskets of WIPs in front of it. And there are two columns of boxes to the left of the white boxes partially pictured.

This is the top of the wall that has the door. There's another column of boxes behind the "zippers" column.

This is the bottom of the door wall:

Laundry baskets are more of my mom's WIPs. There are two columns of boxes behind the box with the orange on top.

Not pictured: the five boxes in the breaker room, the two boxes in the bathroom, or the ten-ish behind the wet bar.

I think I'm going to start by making a list of tasks. It'll seem less overwhelming if there are like 50 things I need to do that take a half hour each, and can get an endorphin release from crossing off a list, as compared to the endless vague task of "clean sewing room".

2  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2017 in The Swap Gallery by gala_apples on: February 17, 2017 10:58:08 PM
I approached Joyfulclover to do a private swap with me because I really liked a patch she'd sewn, and thought my girlfriend would want one for her jean jacket. Then we agreed to do a surprise large based on fandoms.

She ended up making me a bunch of fandom stamps. They're all so large, like palm sized, which is exactly perfect. I like to stamp fabric to make custom shirts. Not sure if the Hitchhiker's Guide or Teen Wolf will be first up, but I love them all. (and I've already used the waffle for the ST swap that just closed!)

And funny enough, she ended up sending everything in this wood box. A fandom I didn't mention in PMs is Rooster Teeth, a video game and live action production company, which is set in... wait...guess.... TEXAS! How perfect?!

Last time monkey_girl and I swapped, somehow both of our packages got lost in transit. I'm so stoked that this time both made it safely, even if it did happen a few days after valentines.

My January theme project was done a few days ago, but it's just taken me this long to get pics up.

I have one of those 14x14 boxes full of scraps. Okay, no, I have 6 different 14x14 boxes. But I have one box that's just for cardstock scraps. When I make a card I can't bare to toss the offcuts, so they all just go in the box. But Christmas was a busy card time, and now the box BARELY closes. So one of my key destashes is using up these.

I sat on the bus one day, thinking about what 'history' means to me. Turns out it means a lot of things. So I cut ~stripes~, some of them ~white~, and stamped out some ~history~ words, and made them match these scrapbook paper envelopes thimbles71 made me for the 12 days of christmas swap.

Now on to the February challenge!

Last year I made myself a pair of green Archie Comics sweatpants. This year I made myself a blue pair of sweatpants. There's at least 5 more metres of Archie material, so I'll probably do it again in 2018.

Because of life stuff, Thimbles ended up sending to me in three different packages. Day One got here yesterday, and the details of it are stunning.

Two Christmas crab throw pillows. Look at the seashell ornaments!

9  First Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by gala_apples on: December 29, 2016 10:14:17 PM
I made Thimbles a quilt for the 12 days of Christmas swap. It took much longer than I thought it would. Even cutting everything out was a chore. I didn't have any actual quilting supplies, so I made a 6x6 square pattern piece and cut it out 81 times. There were definitely a few times where I wanted to throw the whole thing into the garbage. Pinning on the extra wide bias tape was especially awful, it didn't catch the bottom a few times on the first sew, so I had to go over the whole thing a second time.

In the end though, I used up some of my miles and miles of Christmas cotton, and made something I'm proud of. Also, I got a board and a ruler and a cutter for Christmas, so the next one should hopefully be easier.

The back is the same white plaid fabric with the bells that's the fourth square in.

10  3 fandom t-shirts in Stenciling: Completed Projects by gala_apples on: December 29, 2016 09:56:07 PM
This Christmas I made my girlfriend of five years a shirt based on her favourite Youtube personality-- GTLive/MatPat. He does analysis of films and video games, as well as streaming gameplay. He ends every theory with this statement:

I also made my best friend a shirt for her favourite fandom. There's a musical show called Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and one of the songs is called Face Your Fears. It's a song about insanely dangerous things you should do to show the world you're tough and not scared of anything. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrytvZc5Tew
I wrote out the lyrics in bullet format:

Lastly, for the multi-theme swap, I made Ryn a semi-subtle Playstation shirt:
