22  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Old pillows turned new! on: October 25, 2006 02:25:14 PM
Okay, dont know if this is TRULY a recon but here it is.

Had some old pillows my mom gave us and they were truly looking bad, some worse than others. But the pillows themselves were still usable, so I got out some  bandanas that I had bought and planned to use but still havent and decided to use them, with some muslim and make the pillows some nice new shams. BTW, my wife is very happy with the way they turned out, and if I do say so my self, they look very good as do the stitching (yay for myself and getting better at strait stitching!!).

Old pillows, my wife could only bring herself to picture one of them lol.

And how they look now, with the shams

My wife didnt take a picture of the backs, but I left a slot in the back that is folded over so you cant see the pillow inside. Gonna put a button on the back to help keep them closed and to bring some color to the backs of them. But the button job is my wife's since that is one thing that the sewing machine wont do and the one thing I cant do lol

Oh yea, action shot.

Let me know what you guys think.

just tie a knot in the strap that weay you can untie it if you want it longer, always works for me.

great dress, again, and love the bag. very coolies!
24  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Anyone use brown rice syrup or splenda (especially in baking)? on: October 17, 2006 08:04:31 PM
We use xylitol, tastes MUCH better than splenda (i.e. no icky aftertaste) and is alot sweeter than sugar. You just cant use it for drinks that call for a bunch, like kool-aid or very sweet ice tea (made is like gallon or half gallon batches). The plus side is that is all natural and has the side effect of strengthening your teeth and enamel and crap. Search for it, its good stuff.

violentjayne - Thanks!!! I asked her about the tail again and told how I would do it (either alternating black and orange stripes, tiger stripes, or black with orange skunk-type stripes) but she says a definate "No" lol. oh well.

Scary Teri, DogGrrl, Magdellena, Reddevil - Thanks! Glad you guys liked it  Grin

alwaysinmyroom - Wow, first marriage proposal from a craftster.... wife says sure, but I can only make her stuff lol  Wink  Yea, i love the look of one shirt on top of another, it just looks "right" to me.

Tom-Kat - yea, i've thought about stripes either on the back or down the sides, but as for right now, she isnt biting. She seems to like the back as it is, but who know how long that will last. Smiley
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Halloween T-Shirt Recon to Cat Hoodie on: October 15, 2006 07:59:56 PM
Had a halloween t-shirt that didnt fit me anymore so my wife wore it. She loved it but it didnt fit her very well, so i decided to make it fit her and while i was at it, give it a hood, sleeves, and cat ears lol. The colors worked out very well, and she loves it.

Front with ears

AAAAAND another front, what can I say, I love my wife. Isnt she beautiful?

The back with hoodie laying down

Back with ears up. What do you guys think? the back needs something, unfortunatly she wont let me do a tail lol

Action Shot lol

If you cant tell, and you might not the pics arent very close, but i left the original hems ont he sleeves and sewed the black sleeves under them so it would look like the orange shirt was worn on top of a black one. Sewed it so you can move the hems and crap so it looks even better, did the same thing when I attached the hood.

Anyways, we love it, but its not compleatly done, once I find another black shirt to cut up, its cgetting a pouch *grin* no more fabric left over big enough.

I love comments so, let me know what you guys all think. Thanks!
