1  Dessert Sushi in Dessert by Shimmer413 on: July 11, 2009 09:58:00 AM

dessert sushi! sugar sushi!  candy sushi! Whatever you wanna call it, it's yumm-o and super fun to make. I made these for a party this week and they were a big hit!

I found inspiration for these little pretties years ago at not martha http://www.notmartha.org/tomake/hostesssushi/, but had forgotten all about them until recently, when I also found great posts at Evil Mad Scientist http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/DessertSushi and cucumbersomehttp://cucumber-some.blogspot.com/2008/02/faux-sushi.html. Pardon the tres horrible photos... my kitchen has awful lighting.

Here's a list of supplies I used:

    * Twinkies
    * Zingers (Those raspberry Twinkie-like things with coconut on the outside)
    * Ladyfingers (SO glad I ran into these in the bakery; they worked awesome)
    * Marshmallows
    * Vanilla icing
    * Shredded coconut
    * Fruit Roll-ups/Fruit by the Foot (Good luck finding green; it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped)
    * Some sugary sour apple rope stuff (dunno, found it in the candy store)
    * Swedish Fish-like knockoffs
    * Dried fruit & nuts (mango, pineapple, pumpkin seeds, choc. covered sunflower seeds)
    * Colored nonpareils

I'd highly encourage you to give these a shot. They were pretty easy once you do a couple and wicked fun to make; not to mention shopping for all the "forbidden" sweets! You can totally let your imagination go crazy with ingredients, combinations, and presentations. Have fun!

These little babies were my personal favorite (probably cause they had the most icing!). I was skeptical, but pleasantly surprised at how good everything tasted all together. I confess, many fish were harmed in the making of this recipe.  Grin

I've received 3 more... just waiting on 1 now, I think!

I don't believe in cutting.  It's temporary.
I hope this means you don't believe in doing anything that's not temporary.   Undecided  I hope you are able to talk to someone.

I've gotten too fat to jump.
Thank you for sharing this secret with me.  I, too, have struggled with weight issues (and still do!) and I know its never easy.

"Pregnant?  Hope is sometimes hard to see."  This has been the only ad I've seen on Craftster for weeks.  It really scares me.  What if I'm pregnant AGAIN?
That would be really creepy, wouldn't it?  Hopefully things turn out how you want them to be, whatever that may be.

Thank you all for sharing these wonderful secrets with me!!

More secrets!  These all came in within two days of each other... I call them my black and white set.. haha..

Dead - This is what my mother wanted for me!  She's an alcoholic.
Wow, I'm sorry you have to deal with such horrible things.  I hope your mother can find the help she needs.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me.  So tie me up and throw me down and show me that you like me.  The back says, I was running out of secrets, so my boyfriend gave me some!  He's a complete masochist!  It goes over well... I'm a sadist!  LOL!
I loved this card...I thought it was so clever!  I'm glad you found a good match!

I only started wearing my glasses when I accidentally shaved off half my eyebrow.
This card really made me laugh!  I hope your eyebrow is back now! Haha.

Thank you all for sharing your great secrets with me.

First, I must say, the YOGA QUEEFER, that was utterly hilarious!  I've queefed during yoga too, but usually only my husband is around.  We both die laughing!

Secondly, I have received lots of secrets over the past several days.  Here we go....

I cried when Bumblebee was dying. (Shia LaBeouf/Transformers)
I did too!!!  My husband thinks I'm nuts for the things I cry over.  Grin  I loved this!

My friend's baby girl is dying... and I am not there for her because I am afraid of getting too close.  Sad  I wish it would end soon now.
This one made me really sad.  I hope you can find it within yourself to be there for your friend during this difficult time.  Don't be afraid of your feelings; they are normal and healthy.  I'm sure you are and will feel pain, and your friend definitely will as well.  It might help your friend to know that someone else feels the hurt and is affected by her daughter's sickness; that she is not alone.  Whatever the situation, I hope you and your friend are able to heal and that a miracle happens for her baby girl.

My best friend sometimes gets melodramatic on the phone and I make faces and roll my eyes so far back in my head that I can almost see my brain...but I keep my voice level so she won't know because I don't want to hurt her feelings.
You aren't alone here!  I think we've all done this on the phone... it annoys me when I do it, but I'm so afraid of not being "polite" and a good listener.

I attempted suicide at 13.  12 years later, I have never been happier.  I am so happy I failed.
This card made me both happy and sad at the same time.  I am SO glad you didn't succeed, but I was upset that you had such a rough time then.  I am glad things are brighter and happier for you now.  I am the same age as you, so that really struck home... how much I would have missed in my life in these past 12 years.

I like the smell of my own FARTS!
Hahaha... I LOVE this!  I, too, don't necessarily dislike my own "aroma"!  hahaha!

Those black & white commercials make me cry.
I'm a sucker for a good cry as well... It help release all kinds of emotion!  I think its great!

We have a winner! (I'm taking my expired prescription).  ZOLOFT: dulls family relations, gives out of body experience, still feel kind of crazy.  NO ZOLOFT: makes me deal with family, mind games aren't from a pill, doesn't aid weight loss, still crazy, not the good kind
Sender, not knowing your particular situation and circumstances, I hope that the Zoloft is helping you (it sounds that way!).  I'm glad you were able to figure out a solution!!

I have a SECRET but I can't even tell you anonymously, I am so ashamed.
That's ok... releasing this "secret" in and of itself is hopefully helping you deal with your true secret.  Maybe someday, you'll find the need/desire to get things off your chest, but if not, hopefully this process has helped you nonetheless.

Thank you all for sharing your wonderful secrets with me and the Craftster community!  Therapy at its best!  Cheesy

Two more!  Like everyone else said, its amazing how FAST this gallery piles up... There are SO many card I want to comment on.  For now, here are two awesome cards I received recently:

I can relate to this, but from a different angle.  I sometimes feel like my husband's family judges me because I grew up in a different (known to be snobby/rich) state, even though we were just a regular middle class family.

I thought this was absolutely hilarious!  I love it!!  Smiley

Thanks for sharing your secrets!

I received two wonderful postcards!

"I wish I could relive college.  I want to have that much fun again."

"When I was 11 or 12, I still went to a day-care type place for Spring Break.  It was my last year going.  There was a boy there who really liked me.  He held my hand and acted really romantic towards me.  At the end of the week, we didn't exchange contact information... I wonder if he still thinks about me like I think about him"

Thank you both for sharing such wonderful secrets.  If there's anything you can't read, just let me know and I can type them out.

Well, the day has come and gone and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect, beautiful day.  It was quite overwhelming to be surrounded by everyone that I love all in one place.  Amazing, in fact.  Just wanted to share my photos of finished crafty-related projects!  (Not all of them are horribly crafty per-se, but oh well!)  Cheesy

Newsletter-style programs and baskets of bubbles.  These were handed out by some dear friends.

Bridesmaid Emergency Kit.  Definitely came in handy!!

"Through the Years" Collage of hubby and I

Centerpieces.  We kept things really simple and easy.

Sand ceremony... Much thanks to Craftster MAR for her help in attaining this canister!!

And one final pic, showing us happy newlyweds (and the flowers we made!)

A link to more photos of our wedding if you care to take a peek! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=53280.msg2145036#msg2145036

9  Re: UPDATED with LOTS of PICS !! *Sarah's September Wedding Stuff* in Weddings and Bridal Showers by Shimmer413 on: July 18, 2007 09:25:29 AM
Ok, I posted this on the main board too, but I'm posting it here in case anyone can help...  thx.

Hello... I know this isn't exactly crafty, but I know you're all a great resource.  My fiance and I are doing a sand ceremony at our wedding and I have searched all over for this canister, or one very close to it... (this picture courtesy of knottie bride, jaxlynn.)

Have you seen it anywhere?  I'm in Vermont, so we don't always have the best choices in stores, but I have family in other parts of the country, so if I couldn't order it online, they might be able to help.

I just love this jar, especially because of the lid and the bookplate frame.  Right now I just have an open vase to use, but this would be so much better!  Thanks in advance for your help!  Smiley

Thanks for everyone's help on the main wedding board!!  I think I've found a good solution already... that was quick!  If anyone else happens to be looking for these, check out this thread for great suggestions:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=184016.0
