1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Should I keep my prom dress? Help me out guys! on: April 22, 2008 02:38:37 PM
Helllllllo craftsters!

I decided to make my senior prom dress this year, because there are just too many tacky and overpriced dresses out there.

I decided to go with a Grecian-inspired dress, using this silky gold/sand colored jersey that I bought at an estate sale a few years back. I made it in a couple of hours, (the draping took up most of the time) but I'm not sure whether I should keep this dress, or succumb to the endless onslaught of mainstream prom attire and purchase a dress. Although I'm relatively pleased with it, what do you oh-so-knowledgeable craftsters think?

I really appreciate any input from you guys Smiley
Thanks so much for looking!

2  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Draped dress help? on: March 30, 2008 07:12:46 PM
Hello all! I'm currently working on my prom dress, and I was wondering if anyone knew how it would be possible for me (using silk jersey) to achieve a draped skirt such as this:

I'm going to be sewing the skirt onto a separate bodice portion, so it won't be attached like in the photo. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get the fabric to drape that way Sad I would LOVE any help from anyone!

Thank you guys!

The last one is absolutely gorgeous! I've made an infinity dress as well, but I can't wrap my head around how you got yours to look like that! How did you do it?

Hi again,

I was wondering.. if I sew the side seams a little further in (making it more narrow), do you think I would be able to get a shape like in the drawing?

Hello fellow craftsters! I have a question for all of you brilliant people.
I am taking it upon myself to make my prom dress this year, as there are too many gaudy, overpriced, and simply hideous dresses out there. I've already made a test dress, just to make sure about fit and overall design. However, I ran into difficulty when I came to the skirt part of the dress.

I want the skirt to look like the one pictured above, except slightly more tapered like in the drawing.

I can't figure out how to get the fabric to drape around the legs, and how I would go about lining it. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions, I would love to hear them!

Thank you so much guys!  Smiley
