21  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Two new bibs - a bit wordy, and four pics. on: June 09, 2008 12:15:31 AM
I've done a couple more baby bibs, one for my as-yet-unborn-DD (come on September...) and one for my friend's new baby boy.  Well, he's actually 7 weeks old now, but I'm a little slow to get around to it...

Here's a shot of the two bibs...

Ok, first here's the detail of the one for the baby boy.  Yep, his name is Campbell (cutest name EVER, and boy is he adorable!).  I did this completely in backstitch, call me crazy but I think that stitch is more "boyish" than the others that I can do... Undecided

rocket ship...

and lettering...

And here is the one for my baby.  Split stitch around the outside, stem stitch in the middle of the wings, and satin stitch for the body.

For both of these, I used tearaway stabiliser.  It worked GREAT for the butterfly, which I did first, but with the rocket ship, I found that it pulled the stitches away quite badly, and I had to do some damage control in a couple of places.   Angry  I think this is to do with the back stitch not being as "strong" as the other stitches.  Maybe??  Anyone know?  Either way, I've now found some water soluble stabiliser on eBay which I'm waiting to be delivered, so this should probably solve the problem anyway.

By the way, so sorry about the shadowy photos, this house has terrible lighting issues.  Perhaps also has to do with the photographer...  Tongue

Comments and criticism appreciated.  And thanks for looking!!  Grin
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Kliban Kat dress on: June 06, 2008 08:31:44 AM
This dress is TOO CUTE!!!  I loves it.  I'm constantly amazed at the things people find in second hand stores over there!  I go into my local Salvos here (in Australia) and there is nothing as cool as this sheet.

Awesome work.  I would wear that EVERYWHERE.  I have the perfect shoes for it, in fact....

Oh these are great!!  I can see why you love the hummingbird   Smiley  But I also love the fighter jet, that's really cool.  And the rocket ship.  And... aw heck, they're all cute!  hehe

Thank you everyone for the feedback!

About embroidering on toweling... well, I heard about using water soluble stabilizer, the one that is transparent, it almost looks like plastic. You could draw the design on the stabilizer and hoop it along with the towel... You could baste stitch the stabilizer to the towel so id doesn't move to much.

Dona, I went to our local craft supermarket (Spotlight) but couldn't find any of this stabiliser.  It would be the answer to my dreams if I found it.  Do you know if I could order it online from anywhere?

28  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Bib for my baby! on: May 24, 2008 06:44:47 AM
I got so excited by posting my first piece of work, that I quickly whipped out the stitch-it-kit and some blank bibs that were just waiting to be embroidered, and ..... voila!  I give you the first bib for my baby girl (coming September 4th to a delivery room near you....)

It's a pound cake with butter cream in the centre, pink icing, and raspberries on top!  So excited about my first French Knots!  Even though they're a bit rubbish, I'm amazed they didn't end up tangled messes, so it's all good!

And here it is, full sized... (sorry about the hoop marks!  Told you I was excited... I couldn't even wait for the iron to warm up!!)

Mmmmm... I really want cake now....

By the way, any tips for embroidering on towelling are welcome.  Boy that stuff snags easily!
