1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: My First Handspun Yarn w/ 3 pics on: April 25, 2007 02:32:09 PM
Wow.... I've been spinning for a couple of months now and I am just barely starting to get that good! Really great, that 2-ply looks so incredibly even, esp for a first try!! Hope to see more of your yarn soon.
2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Mrs. Darcy KAL on: April 22, 2007 04:55:50 PM
heh. well, I found a really great price on some noro so instead of saving my money for that malabrigo I spent just about all my money on that.... but don't worry, I left just enough left to get some good ol scratchy knitpicks wool of the andes. So. I will most definetly be making this sweater, it will not be soft and yummy, but I can deal. And with knitpicks shipping to the east coast I might not get my yarn until august, but thats okay. I will watch your knitting-along and maybe be able to jump in when you guys are finishing up... who knows.

k well good luck guys, and indie-knitter, thank you so much for putting up the pattern!! It's so nice of you, I appreciate it TONS!

thanks indie-knitter, I'm pretty sure i'm going to go for the malabrigo, probably in the sweet grape colorway. Picking a color is tricky business! Some colorways are solid, some are lightly variegated, and some are extremely variegated, often depending on which website you look at. solid or semi-v are fine w/ me... so I guess I'm just going to cross my fingers and see what our mailwoman brings.

mmmkay so I think I want in on this KAL... just would like to ask a couple questions before I order my yarn. I have it narrowed down to, like, two types of yarn, Cascade Pastaza or Malabrigo. I'd probs order from WEBS (yarn.com) just because I have some noro that I need and they have the colorway that I want and WEBS is about an hour from my house, so shipping is quick. (yeah yeah I know I could just go to their store and avoid shipping costs.....but things are complicated when you don't have a drivers permit/license and your mom would rather die than drive you to yet another yarn store.) Anyway. enough complaining on my part.

The cascade would be in the colorway 0054

And the malabrigo... well, I don't know what color that would be.

I was looking for a deep purple, but I couldn't really find the right color. I reallyreallyreally want this sweater to look good, it will be my first finished one ever (hopefully, as my first first sweater is sitting alone and unloved, with only one sleeve left to go. But it was stupid and ugly so I don't really care anyway Roll Eyes ) Right. So I wanted dark purple, mainly because dark purple is in the elite group of colors that looks good on me. Red hair and light skin....... yep. But I promise, dark purple looks nice. Actually, want proof? here.

Thats obviously not me... but thats the same color hair that I have and the same skin tone. So I was looking for that color to do this sweater in. Anyway I couldn't really find it but I guess I can settle for something purple-ish.

So. I like the cascade color, it's pretty close to what I want, and it would be cheap too- just a bit more than 40 dollars. However, if I could squeeze the sweater out of 860 yards, I could get just four hanks of malabrigo, which is undoubtably yummier, and not much more money than the cascade (just under fifty). Sooo I'm going back and forth on it... anyone want to weigh in? Is 860 yds enough?? does malabrigo pill too terribly? Should I sacrifice color for the buttery-soft malabrigo? and if I did, which color should I go with??  I was thinking maybe paris night, or vaa...

Okay so if you made it through all of that, wow, congratulations. and If you still love me enough to give me some tips/opinions, Thank you, thank you, thank you!

ETA: so apparently there is a 20% off sale at yarnzilla, and they have four PAGES of malabrigo colors.

7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Oy. on: March 13, 2007 06:04:12 PM
eww... I love my dog and all, but it would be kinda gross to be wearing his fur...

I agree with fyberduck. why, why would you want to wear your cat fur? especially when (probably much nicer to work with) fibers are around? Not like its a huge savings of money. If you buy the stuff undyed it would be like... what? 25, 30 dollars? wow um so there I go overanalyzing stuff again.

but still, yuck.

oh no!! that two color one looks so nice I just HAVE to make this sweater... even though I am just about to cast on for a fair isle sweater, a different one. what to do, what to do?

of course, then I would have to decide if I should do the two color (which looks spectacular, btw, never woulda thought of that.) or tons of colors like the pattern... oh the knitterly agony! so many choices, so little time! Tongue
9  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday 3/09/07 on: March 10, 2007 08:56:39 AM
wow, everything looks great!

I've never really posted but now I'm really really mad b/c I FINALLY got a wheel and I FINALLY got a good digital camera and I FINALLY had spun a couple of presentable yarns.... and then. my. dad. took. the. camera. for the whole weekend! stupid cubscouts and their stupid overnights.... ggggrrrr! Angry

I even did an all night spinning marathon last night and my yarns are just about dried... and i set up my little yarn-picture taking studio. then *poof* no camera. sigghh. oh well. I guess we'll have to see what next weekend brings us.. although it looks like a busy one so who knows when I will make my fiber friday debut?

sorry for the pathetic ranting! I was just so pumped to finally post.
see you guys next week.

(and oh yeah did I mention you're awesome?)
10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Yup, Another wheel question but mine is about shipping! on: March 09, 2007 09:56:14 AM
haha umm I feel kinda out of place here, too, but I ordered my lendrum from the woolery and it came in less than a week. Idk if it came so quickly because they carry lendrums in stock, but i ordered on a sunday and it arrived that friday. I think i might have died if i had to wait three weeks!  Tongue
