1  remember the MOST AMAZING ADVENT CALENDAR?? well, i'm back again! (pics/tute) in Winter Holidays by burstandbloom on: December 14, 2009 06:45:17 PM
hi there,

As mentioned in the title, I made this -->http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=132553.0 post a few years ago. Well, I thought it was time for a new advent calendar this year when I found a big CUBE of foam!! Now, I don't this one is QUITE as fancy as the one from before, and that's because I literally decided to start this project 5 days before it needed to be done (these five days were during finals as well. lol)

So I learned a few things while doing this such as:
1) it will look a lot better if you have more than a week
2) my recently acquired dremel tool made cutting the foam ten million times easier (on my first calendar, i was in a dorm room and literally only had a dull pumpkin carving knife)
3) dremel tool + foam block = confetti!

note: I only made 16 box places on this advent calendar because my bf and I are only spending that much of december before christmas together.

now on to pics!

-I made these little boxes. I made my own box pattern because I hated all the ones online. each box is approx 1.5 x 1.5in

- then put them in their little cubbies!

- top view

now a couple of process photos:

-first, draw on your boxes. if duplicating this on a cube it is IMPORTANT to leave a margin slightly larger than the depth of your boxes. otherwise your openings will cut into each other.

- then use your dremel tool (or knife or whatever) to excavate the cubby holes

-(which then creates green confetti!!)

-finally, cover your cube faces with paper and cut out your windows [or cover however you want]

after that, i painted the inside of the boxes so they would be dark, but you could do whatever.

anyway....enjoy!

2  Valentines card for my boyfriend! (couple of pics) in Valentine's Day by burstandbloom on: February 11, 2008 08:52:41 PM
I know it's been ages since i've posted one of my obsessive creations for my boyfriend...don't think i stopped creating...i just normally get too excited and give things to him before i can take pics. haha.

anyway...here's the v-day card i made him... the heart on the front is in a tiny vinyl pocket i made and you can pull the heart out.

here's the inside...i decided to try that cool pop up heart thing that everyone has been doing, only i made a different "face" for mine because plain was boring

enjoy!

3  christmas crafting for my new little hedgehog!! in Winter Holidays by burstandbloom on: December 04, 2007 08:56:47 PM
well i thought i'd share with you my little arts and crafts binge for my hedgie..

the pic is sideways...sorry, i couldnt get it to save upright for some reason. and i had just woken him up before the picture that's why he's all bundled up

anyway, i made his little santa hat, and i didn't MAKE his tree/decorations....but putting them altogether is still crafting!

WIPs:
- a little UT longhorn themed fleece snuggle bag (sleeping bag)
- perhaps a tiny knitted beanie? and MITTENS! AWW
- i'm also going to be making him his own wheel, you know the ones that little pets run on? but i'm in the process of gathering the supplies

any other ideas for my cute little guy?

4  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by burstandbloom on: November 25, 2007 05:31:38 PM
I just did my hair this past weekend.... I used sonice green from special effects. It's been a week, and i'm still not sure if i like it ;/  in the past i've always done reds or pinks or purples...so the green was definitely new. it's actually a little more teal-ish in real life, but the pictures made it VERY green. oh well.

5  an amazing sweater....but how do I make it?! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by burstandbloom on: November 16, 2007 05:16:35 PM
I saw this sweater in a UO magazine about a year ago and thought to myself that i did not want to spend $50 bucks on it, when i'm sure i could make it. well i just found the magazine a couple days ago, and i want to make it!

the problem is, i have NO idea what stitch they used. and the shape looks prety straight forward but i've never made a sweater before, does anyone know of any similar shaped sweater patterns that i could use?

also, does anyone know of any yarn that looks like this? it looks like it's sock-weight thin with little specks of color in it, i didnt see anything like it at my lys.

6  $1,000.00 for a dress??? I don't think so! I need some help though... in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by burstandbloom on: November 16, 2007 05:10:44 PM
So, I saw this GORGEOUS dress on the cover of a magazine, and flipped inside to see how much it was, because i thought it'd be PERFECT for my two year anniversary with my boyfriend...

here's a closer shot for detail

My problem is, I can not find lace/mesh like that anywhere. the dress is basically pink silk(i dont know why it came out so orange in the pics) with black lace/mesh over it.

the silk is easy to find, but can someone PLEASE direct me to a store/website that sells something like that lace? thank you!

also, i'm PRETTY sure i saw a tute on crafster for making a dress of this style, does anyone know of it? i usually don't use patterns for clothing but since i'llbe working with such nice material, i dont want to buy extra for the trial and error part of figuring out my own pattern. lol.

7  Re: Altoid Tin Swap Round 9! in The Swap Gallery by burstandbloom on: November 14, 2007 05:43:42 PM
PIICCCTTTUURRESSS! haha. i'm al ittle excited about the amazing tin that dragonflyducky sent to me! she picked my HEDGEHOG theme, and well, let's just say that, when i opened the package, i nearly died from all the cuteness inside.

without further ado, photos:

look! My little hedgie can come out of his tree to play!

the back of the tin...a cute little hedgie!

then the insides:the MOST ADORABLE little hedghog stitch markers, a wonderful hedgehog pin, a tape measurer (i'm a sewer too, and little did she know, my cat chewed up my other measurer..so i realyl needed a new one!), and also, there was a piece of chocolate, but it didnt make it to the photoshoot  Wink

the insides, as you will notice are covered in really pretty patterned velvety paper.

THANKS SO MUCH!!! i love everything. i'm trying to think of a knitting project now that needs me to use ALL of the stitch markers at once. lol

9  I made my own bed and headboard...and i am very VERY pleased in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by burstandbloom on: August 20, 2007 06:12:34 PM
background story: i saw this bed that i liked and it was like 1,600 dollars for basically a piece of wood one four legs...so i thought to myself..."hey i can make that for MUCH CHEAPER" so i started planning...THEN i thought to myself...i need a headboard...i should design a cool one. so i did. so without further ado...
behold:
here's a closeup of the bed frame...it really is a peice of wood on four legs (slightly more complicated but we'll leave it at that) so this is really the only pic necessary

here's my amazing headboard that I am so proud of...this was so tedious and a pain in the a$$ but...VERY worth it!

here's a general view...it kinda sucks because my pillows cover up a lot of my head board...i may eventually take it off the bed and attach it to the wall for a floating headboard...

{other items featured in the picture are as follows in case anyone is wondering}
- tree printed duvet cover and matching sham: crate & barrel
- wall decals: www.whatisblik.com
- globe lamp (that really doesnt match my room lol): delias
- white accent pillow: ikea

anyway...here are the pics!
it looks like a hostess cupcake! and there is a precious little pin cushion that came as "Extra"

inside...there was a cute hand mirror! (i was JUST griping about how i need a little mirror to go in my purse)

and...the rest! a cute little cupckae necklace, cupcake hairclips, and lots of buttons!! notice the "cream" filling in the tin!

anyway, i love it! it is so adorable and i had so much fun with this swap!
