41  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Santa and More :) on: October 15, 2006 02:57:41 PM
I usually make jewelry items with Polymer Clay (mainly beads) but I got bored while I was without internet and decided to make some holiday stuff.

He's still a bit rough looking, but maybe with practice I can make figures as awesome looking as all of yours Smiley

I think I am going to finish this first one, and just have a sloppy ball. If nothing else, it's getting me used to hand stitching again, so it'll just have a variety of hand stitching. Plus it's half done so I must finish it no matter how crappy it looks.

I'll use it as my working pincushion til it falls apart.

Once it's done I'll try leaving more space and machine sewing or something. I have some freezer paper anyway.

Or using felt. I love felt Cheesy

I was avoiding running out and buying something else (and my husband will kill me, as I just got a new easel, some clay and some new scissors this week)

I might just have to though, as I am bound and determined to make this thing!
44  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Re: Crafts for Blythe, BJDs and other non-toy toys? on: September 25, 2006 08:05:16 PM
I don't have the cash (yet) to embark on my planned Blythe journey, but I'm so obsessed with them.

I wonder if splitting the toys/dolls/playthings would work? Have that category, and then under it split "Non Toy Toys" and "Kids and Playable Toys" or whatever.

Then each of THOSE could have the "Discussion" and "Completed" boards?

I'm so thrilled there are Blythe lovers here Cheesy

Oh well, no pics yet! I'm about halfway finished but I  may just start over with new fabric.

What fabric / stitches are you all using?

I have some fabulously patterned fabric I rescued from two old tablecloths a neighbor was going to toss out. (Cotton)

They look pretty groovy together, but the fabric is unravelling as I sew, and I can't sew any deeper into the pieces to prevent the fray or they'll disappear lol! I tried using a blanket stitch as well but I'm out of practice on that so it's pretty uneven and sloppy.

I might just go pick up some felt...

I want to make a bigger one eventually, but I REALLY want the small one for a pincushion Sad

I am handsewing, btw. I've never machine sewed such tiny pieces before and it wasn't working out well at all hah.

Oh, I've been looking for somewhere to jump in and participate and I think this is it! I got all inspired and have already cut out enough pieces for two of them.

Hopefully I'll be ready to show off a photo of at least one tomorrow! Smiley

I am so in love with these!
47  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: electric kitten hosting on: September 23, 2006 11:43:54 PM
I've never heard of it! It looks interesting, and while I'm getting hosting pretty cheap, this looks cheaper for more. I will have to look into it further!
48  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Tags and labels on: September 23, 2006 03:59:55 PM
I need to make tags and labels for my bags, could you recommend me a good place with a fare prices?

thank you

Cyn

I got mine from a lovely seller on Etsy who can take your logo and make whatever size you wish!

Here is a link to my actual purchase from her so you can see the finished product.

If that link becomes invalid, you can visit her Etsy here:

She has tons of examples and her prices on the labels are ridiculously fair.
49  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: redone site -- would love any input/advice on: September 23, 2006 03:34:20 PM
thanks rosali.  those are both great comments.  i've been working through ideas people have given me, here and elsewhere, to try and incoporate all the good ideas.  i was going for a real minimialist look to the site, but there are some things that just have to be there (i added the little cart and home buttons for this reason.  i think you're right--i somehow have to add mc/visa/paypal/check infor everywhere.  hm.....not sure how to do that without screwing up the look.

I'm guessing you added them since you've posted this because I think where you have the logos right now is perfect!
