21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Do you/would you leave a negetive comment about a craft? on: October 27, 2006 07:51:51 PM
You know, people have become way to freakin' sensitive. Here's my take:
If someone asks for feedback on their work, then yes, positive and negative should be said. We aren't children anymore who need their egos stroked so we can have high self esteem. We don't evolve if we don't hear the truth. So, personally, I have no problem saying that something needs work.
As far as the whole "if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all" theory... I have another one that I go by: "If you don't want the answer, don't ask the question."

I don't think anyone has a problem hearing their craft needs work, it's the delivery that counts.

You're absolutely right, we aren't children. As such, we should be able to share our opinions constructively and maturely.

Luckily that seems to be the norm for Craftster members.

Well if nobody else is interested, maybe we can start one with just the two of us and start on a weekend at a coffee shop or something?

I'm with the pack here Wink I, like most, I would not bother to post to something I totally disliked. I've also hammered it into my own thick skull that even if asked for 'constructive criticism' I wouldn't do it if I couldn't find something nice to say first, just so they know I don't hate the thing completely, just have an opinion on one detail.
That said, I'm the sort who might toss a 'negative' opinion that is just that - opinion - into a post, without really thinking about it. Indeed, I think saying something like, "I normally don't like pink, but this project is AWESOME!" is actually a higher compliment than "Awesome work!" Why? Because even though I'm prejudiced against the one choice, the item as a whole really impressed me. I'm also socially inept enough that I didn't even consider that it might offend someone. oops!

I think saying "I normally dislike things that are pink, but this is such an awesome piece and I absolutely love it!" is fine. I think there are ways to word it that are less nice.

I don't like to think people are afraid to share their opinions - the way I look at it is that I am posting things on a website for everyone to see, which is opening me up for opinions and comments.

I just expect the comments to be polite and not immature and nasty (which I've not seen happen here! Smiley ) whether they like my stuff or they think it's subpar work and are telling me how to improve. I WANT to improve!

I also think (and this is me going off on a tangent) is I think that even if a person hates your piece, they can still have an opinion on the quality of work or technique. There are a lot of things posted here that are not my taste at all, but the craftsmanship is so beautiful and well done!
30  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: troll hair? on: October 24, 2006 05:20:55 PM
I have  very curly hair, and the year I did the same thing with my hair, I used an entire can of Aqua Net. (This was like... 1986.) and it did not move. At all. This also held the curl out of my hair so it was literally sticking up straight Cheesy

You can try setting a base with elmer's glue, keeping it off of your ends, and then spritz the tips with hairspray so you can still fluff it out.
