Hand Embroidered Patch Swap

Craftster member who is organizing this swap: rectangel
Sign-up date range: 10-23 until 11-02 -this is a very limited space swap-maximum 15 people
Date to send item by: November 27, 2007

Limited to a certain number of people?: YES
Should be willing to ship outside your country.

Must have successfully have completed one swap.

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO
All ages allowed? Or 18+? all ages

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap: This designed to be a quick swap that will net you hand embroidered patches from 3-5 different people.

You will receive a PM with the questionnaires for the people you are making patches for, feel free to communicate with them.  When you finish a patch we hope you will post an image of it.  However, you dont have to reveal who it is for so it will still be a surprise for the recipient.  Once your partner receives they are welcome to identify the design they received.  When you receive you must PM the organizer AND the sender.  Each person who you are making a patch for will be making one for you too.

You are required to post in the gallery or the original thread at least once a week after the start of the swap to keep us apprised of your progress.  If you do not post weekly or apprise your organizer of your progress I will advise your partners to hold off sending.  If you state in your questionnaire that you wish to be part of a big group you may have 4 or 5 partners if you state in your questionnaire you wish to be part of a small group you may have 3 or 4 partners.

It is always nice to pick a design with your partner in mind Smiley  The unfinished (open back) patch specifications are as follows minimum size is 3 by 3 maximum is 10 by 10.  They can be on felt, quilting cotton, denim or twill.  If you are using fabric that frays you should include a minimum seam allowance all around the patch or square (ie the 10 max square would then be 10 1/2).  Additionally, if you are using fabric with a grain it is strongly recommended you align your design with the grain of the fabric.  Remember your partner can always trim your patch but your design could be rendered useless if it is too close to the edge of the patch.

Since the patches are light and small they should all fit nicely into an envelope that can be mailed relatively inexpensively.  Each design should be signed or tagged with your screen name.  Consider carefully if you have the time to complete the patches before signing up.  If you send patches to all your partners on time you will receive positive feedback once they arrive.  Tracking does not have to be used but if your item does not arrive you will need to resend in order to receive positive feedback.  Postal receipts should be kept and photographs are also recommended.

Additionally, it is a good idea to put the patches in a plastic bag before putting them in the envelope to ship in order to protect the fabric from the ravages of shipping.

If you want to participate, send the following information to the organizer -

33  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / hand embroidery patch swap on: October 18, 2007 02:09:52 PM
hey everyone,

i'm thinking of posting this next week and i wanted to see what kind of interest it would spark or if you think there is anything I forgot.  It is a little different than the usual swap but I think it will be a little easier than the tea towel tour as there are only multiple sendouts for the organizers and co-organizers and there is no waiting to receive your item to work on Smiley  Let me know what you think Wink

rect'

Details of swap: This designed to be a quick swap that will net you hand embroidered patches from 3-5 different people.  You will be place in a group of 4-6 and make a patch for each person in the group.  You mail all your patches to your groups organizer.  They will then package them and mail back to you 3- 5 different patches once everyones arrives.

For each person there is only one mail out for the organizers there will be 3-5.  Since there is only one mail out we are going to try and allow worldwide participation.  If you are shipping from overseas please be aware of the time lag and pick a suitable shipping option or plan to ship before the deadline.

The patch specifications are as follows minimum size is 3 by 3 maximum is 10 by 10.  They can be on felt, quilting cotton, denim or twill.  If you are using fabric that frays you should include a minimum seam allowance all around the square (ie the 10 max square would then be 10 1/2).  The squares and designs should take into account your partners tastes and you can specify who you want each design to go to or let your organizer decide.

Because the patches are light and small they should all fit nicely into an envelope that can be mailed relatively inexpensively.  Each design should be signed or tagged with your screen name.  If you fail to send in your designs you will receive nothing back in the mail and your partners will receive the design they did for you back.  You will also receive negative feedback for flaking and holding up the swap.  Consider carefully if you have the time before signing up.

The patches should be placed in a Ziploc bag before putting them in the envelope to ship.  Designs can be posted in the gallery as they are completed but it you are not allowed to tell who they are for Wink

34  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / rock n' roll hankies on: September 26, 2007 11:54:52 AM
Hey Everyone,

I just sent these off to some friends who play in a rockabilly band.  My only regret is that I painstakingly stitched all the frets on the guitar only to have the strings completely obliterate them.  Here's the overall view of one

here are all the instruments corners together

and separately the drums are set up like this and he sings while playing

a beautiful Gretsch

and the bass which I did from a photo so as to get some of the stickers he actually has on it

one of the logos I did from a sticker -the microphone, text, stars and notes are from sublime

36  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / hypoallergenic cats on: September 04, 2007 05:54:03 PM
I made this for my swap partner she loves cats but her husband like me is allergic.  Since Sublime has supplied me with so many cat transfers I was in my glory to find a use for them since almost everyone in my family bears ill will towards an animal that makes us all sneeze and wheeze!

the lazy daisies on the border were simple but I really like it on this one

this border was insane and you can't tell in the photo but the ribbon is dark purple and all the colors for the kitten are a shade lighter

all four napkins ... i love them together...orange cats are like yellow for the blonde hair though

my fave

close up - they all have different colored eyes!

Limited to a certain number of people?: YES!

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? YES & NO
If so, which country? US and CANADA
All ages allowed? Or 18+? all ages

Details of swap: This swap is super fun and a great way to get to know people and improve your skills.  Beginners and experienced embroiderers have all enjoyed this swap.  The swap consists of an embroidery tour.  You can send a cloth napkin, an apron, or a tea towel, whatever you choose your item should be a light weight, light colored (preferably white) fabric, suitable for embroidery, and inexpensive to mail.  If you have time before the send date you can embroider a little something on your item but it is more important the item go out on time.

Before you send attach with a safety pin or baste a tag to your item with your name and address and put your item into a Ziploc bag.  Send your item to your designated receiver, post that you have sent it, they embroider it and post their design, and post when they've sent it on.  You wait impatiently for an item to arrive from your designated shipper, post when it arrives and post when you finish your design and include a picture if you can and post when it has been sent on.  Communication you see is the key.  REMEMBER YOU HAVE ONE WEEK FROM WHEN IT ARRIVES TO GET IT BACK IN THE MAIL.

Although this idea originally started with Sublime Stitching you can use any embroidery pattern you like. Please remember that several people need to embroider it in a short amount of time so pick something that fits with your skill level and allotted time frame.  You MUST PM with a DC when you send.

You should PM the organizer and your partners if you think you will be running late or out of contact for more than a week.  Anyone who is not in contact on a weekly basis via posts or PMs without prior notification will be considered flaking.  FLAKERS SLOW DOWN THEIR WHOLE GROUP, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SCHEDULE CAN ACCOMODATE THE TIME COMMITMENT.  The estimated time for completion of this swap is early to mid November.
If you want to participate, send the following information to the organizer:

38  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Hey Kids That's Like a Rocket on: July 20, 2007 04:36:07 PM
Hey,

This is my other item from my last swap.  It was another song title and I have to say I am thrilled with how it turned out.  However, my nephew saw it and now has put in an order of his own!

It is mostly split stitched with 4 threads and I used stablizer.  Word to the wise on the stablizer you never want to rip too much out once you punched through because it loses the stablization once it's got holes in it!  Something I of course didn't think of until I had done it.

I think the part I loved the best about making this was working with these happy bright colors.

Cheers,
rec'

39  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Margaritas and Martinis mmm on: July 13, 2007 10:51:55 AM
Hey I just finished these for a rockabilly swap and my partner has got her package and well I just had to show you all because I'm mighty pleased with how they turned out.  Thanks to amyracinrose for the french knot polka dot skirt idea!  The text is titles from two different songs and the handwriting is mine!

This was my first experiment with seed stitching, verdict very addictive.  I was going for those classic mexican green glass glasses with blue edges -the metallic thread is supposed to be salt on the edge

there's metallic thread in that there sand too

I wrapped/couched those lemons verdict time consuming and I was sad I did the first one because it meant I had to do the other one!  I really wanted to do limes but I thought the yellow looked better with the whole picture next time limes 4sure...

I was worried about that hand since I pattern didn't have the fingers filled in but it turned out better than I expected...can you see her curled lip Elvis smile!

You can see my favorite part in my avatar picture!

40  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Edge stitching - decorative options on: June 11, 2007 11:51:58 AM
Hi Ladies,

I am working on some handkerchiefs and wanted to add a little extra florish by edge stitching them.  I was hoping for something slightly more interesting than a blanket stitch but I would still like it to look good from either side - any suggestions?

Thanks,
rectangel
