21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Martha pearl flower boutineer??? on: May 12, 2005 08:59:44 AM
i would like to make one of those pearl flower and bead boutineer's from the newest martha stewart wedding magazine for my fiance and my dad...
does anyone have any idea where i could find the pearl flower with wholes drilled in the middle???
i've found shell flowers with holes on the top, but that wouldn't work.

any ideas???
thanks!

so i happen to be getting married this summer as well...and i just found great paper lanterns, at target, that have batteries, and little light bulbs already in them, so you just hang them wherever you want!!
they have yellow, blue, red, in the 'summer fun' section, and more colors back in the gardening/patio section.
they have two sizes, and they are very inexpensive (4.99 for small, and 5.99 for large).

i wouldn't try to find any large yellow ones in the greater boston area though, i think i pretty much cleared out every store's stock..   Grin

you could use  glow sticks, the glow for a while, and don't get hot.
also, if you dont have an electrical socket, i think they sell small generators at home depot that you could plug the lights into.
i would check the camping section of a sporting goods store as well.
26  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Mother's Day / Re: What to get for mother's day when you live far from family? on: May 04, 2005 09:54:10 AM
i have the same problem...i only see my mom a few times a year, they live in tennessee.  my idea this year for mother's day was to make her a birthstone necklace.  with her and my dad's stones on the sides, the the four kids stones sort of dangling down.
i think most mom's like jewelry, and it really doesn't matter if they have a lot already, you can always have more!  Grin

my fiance and i are pretty much doing the same thing, planning a quick easy wedding this summer because of scheduling...
it's true that there is no 'easy' way to do it, because ultimately, your mom is going to always think that she knows what is best for her little girl...but, she will survive, and you will survive as long as you are completely honest with her, and discuss everything you want to do, basically make her a part of "your" plans, instead of her making you a part of 'her' plans.

i agree with making a 'mom to do list', i'm going to do something like that for my fiance's mom.  Just let her know that she is going to be involved, but you are making the decisions.
you'll both be better off for it.

oh, and congratulations!
