2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Woodland Tea Dress on: May 02, 2008 04:57:31 AM
Handmade dress by Michaela Meadow. Made from coffee, lace, poetry, painted acorns, birds, flowers and seedpods...with a belt of autumn leaves. One of a kind frock, suitable for frolicking in the woods. Original illustrations painted onto the bottom and pockets of the dress.

6  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Bird Weave on: March 09, 2007 02:08:45 PM
Hi Smiley This is my first weaving project - I used a mixture of different colored mohair, silks, tulle and felt for the weave, & embrodiered a bird design ontop with different patterned fabrics. I painted and decorated the frame with berries, fake flowers, leaves, a butterfly and a little mushroom to finish it off!

thankyou for all the nice comments Smiley I designed and made this corset for my textiles project at college. My teacher is a professional costume designer (she made the dresses for keira knightley in pride & predjudice!) she gave us the pattern but we where mainly left to our own devices to make it. I havent worn it out yet - but maybe I will if there is an occasion to dress up! I'm hoping to study illustration or costume design at uni Smiley

heylo, this is my first post Smiley

here is a corset i made; with a cocoon material and a mixture of silks and a calico backing. delicate pressed flower petals are trapped within the panels. the tree design was embroidered by hand on machine & i used image maker to place my bird drawings within the branches.

Update: thankyou for all the nice comments Smiley here are a few answers to questions -
the cocoon material (on the front panel of the corset) is a gummed fibre stripped from cocoons - i bought it from an amazing site which is full of different fibres and textiles: http://www.winghamwoolwork.co.uk/silks_and_silk_blends.htm

the tree design was first painted onto the panels using a mixture of fabric paint & tea, and then i machine embroidered each panel freehand.
