7181  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Chanson En Crochet in pinky orange sherbert SWS on: January 03, 2008 05:19:59 PM
so how many balls of sws goes into one of these? 4ish?

Darn! I was going to buy the yarn today, but the pattern said about 412 yards...I had 4 skeins in my hands but kind of choked on the price (I'm a cheap yarn kind of girl), even if it was 30% off. I might wait for a better sale, or use a few coupons to buy what I need...maybe I'll go back tomorrow if the yarn is still on sale...because I just did the math and it really isn't as bad as I thought...silly me...

I used almost three balls, I still have a little left over Smiley

awwww, that sucks Sad
I had originally bought 4 balls and just took the extra one back to Michaels yesterday...they were having some kind of sale when I bought it too. I usually get whatever el-cheapo acrylic blend is on sale, but the sws is definitely worth it I think.

Yay! I went back today and got the yarn. I did get 4 balls because I liked it and it was on sale (yes, cheapskate yesterday, spendthrift today...go figure Wink ). I bought it in the Natural Plum colorway because I plan to make it for a friend. Her favorite color is orange but, in case she doesn't like it or won't really wear it, I picked purple tones. She does like purples, too, but I also like purple so if she'd rather have something else, I can wear it! I hardly ever wear orange colors...

7183  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ JAN on: January 02, 2008 04:56:09 PM
I used an I hook too. My square is only 10 1/2 - 11 inches not stretched any.
Should I add another row of dc, or do you think it will be 12 inches once the weight of the other squares are attached?

For the previous CAL (even though I've only made 3 squares so far), I needed to add rows to every square to get them to be the right size. I just needed to be careful that I didn't add too much (I hate to undo stuff Wink ).
7184  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 12" Crochet Square of the Month Craftalong - SEPTEMBER (final month) on: January 02, 2008 04:43:08 PM
Can't wait to see it! I'm working on my 4th square now...well not at this exact moment since I can't type and crochet (but if I could, my squares would have been done ages ago Wink ). I've got the first 4 rounds of  my January square done.

I've decided to stick with light blue and grey as the color scheme since I am only doing the easy squares now. I had to get some more yarn though, and even though it said it was "no dye lot" yarn, it had a different number on it. Hopefully it matches well enough! As long as I don't use them in the same square, it should be close enough and hopefully no one will notice!
7185  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along on: January 02, 2008 04:39:36 PM
I love the giraffe Poppet! Her spots and horns came out fantastic, and her name is just so clever!

Very nicely done!

And, I love all of the ideas that everyone is coming up with! I'm guessing that I won't have my machine back this week, but by next weekend, I should be Poppeting!!

Thanks! And be sure to post pics of them if you do. I'd love to see what others make Wink
7187  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ JAN on: January 02, 2008 04:32:28 PM
Everyone is making such beautiful squares! The pattern is so pretty! And, I'm not a fast crocheter, but with all of the chain pattern in the middle, this looks like it might come together quickly. Does it? If so, I may attempt this after I finish my January easy square from the 2007-along (Homerof2...don't laugh!). I started that square last night and I'll be working on it as soon as I get off of Craftster. So, if I can finish it Sunday or Monday, then I can start on this one...maybe Wink

Wow! Your level of detail is amazing! You did a fantastic job on this!
7189  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ JAN on: January 01, 2008 04:43:45 PM
Oh, man! I'm a year behind on last year's 12" squares Tongue

But, I love this square, so I think I'll be saving the patterns, at least!

Thanks for starting a new one, though...in case I ever do catch up Wink
7190  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Recycled Magazines: Mini Trash Bins/Storage Containers on: January 01, 2008 09:56:51 AM
What a neat idea! I love how they fold up for storage and tuck nicely into one of their own!

Hmmm...I could use these to pass out supplies in my classroom...and then if they get trashed, I can toss them in the recycle bin! I have a ton of old science catalogs that are just piled up in the closet. And, I can teach my students how to make them. Once I learn how*, that is Wink

*not so subtle, "I would love a tute!" request
