7102  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Summer Reading Swap-Signups:Closed; Sendouts:7/30 on: July 28, 2008 07:26:42 PM
For some reason, I can't decide on what to craft for my partner! I do have one idea down solid, and another one is a maybe (I have to see if I have one crucial supply), but I keep changing my mind about anything else. The problem is, on my questionnaire, I listed a few things I didn't want, and for some reason, those are the items I want to make for her Tongue So, I'm trying to figure out other things... I think I finally have it, now I just need to spend a block of time tomorrow working on it. I'm taking an online class that is just sucking up my time- 3 hours tonight, and at least 3 more hours to go this week! Ick... So, since I have to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow for an appt. with the water dept., I may get some early morning crafting in Wink  Nothing like leaving things until the last minute!
7103  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / The Demon Cherry Purse on: July 28, 2008 11:53:17 AM
A while back, I saw the Arc Reactor Shirt made by pickled_peppers and knew that I had to have one for my brother's birthday. We decided to do a personal swap for one and when I checked out her wists, she had wisted a wallet in this fantastic cherry pattern and a handbag. I happened to have the exact same cherry fabric on hand, so I offered to make the handbag in the same fabric.

I cannot begin to tell you the troubles I had with this purse! I used a tutorial (sorry, I don't remember where I found it), but the measurements were a bit vague, so I had to do some figuring and finger-crossing. Then, it has a zipper closure, which I was excited to try, but I had misplaced my zipper foot. I finally had to buy a new one, then wait for it to arrive. When it did arrive, it didn't quite fit my machine, but I managed. Along the way, I managed to misplace the supplies more than once and run into other sorts of random obstacles (like my machine suddenly and randomly skipping stitches). And, the night before I finally put the final touches on it all, I pulled my back out!

I decided that the purse was possessed by a demon, hence the name...

But, all in all, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. There are a couple of things I'd change should I ever get the courage to make another one, but overall, I'm happy!

Because the pattern on the fabric is busy, it's a bit hard to tell but there are two pockets on the front with buttoned flaps. It closes with a zipper and has a 32" strap. It's lined with black fabric. It's about 7" X 10" X 4" big (or small...).

And, because it was taking me so long, and pickled_peppers was being so good-natured about the whole thing, I also made a little coin purse. It has a little loop so she can attach it to a key ring if she wants.

And finally, the root of all of my problems, the Demon Cherry himself...

7104  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Dotee Doll ROUND TWO Gallery on: July 28, 2008 11:36:18 AM
I received my adorable Dotee, Sewphie, from AlwaysInspired! My pictures do not do her justice- she is adorable (I just love her jaunty little thimble hat!). Her face is hand drawn on a large black button, and her "legs" are sewing notions: Thread spool, bobbin, tape measure. And, I love the zipper down the front (I have a thing for zippers!). And, she hangs with rick-rack!! Too cute!

Thanks, AlwaysInspired!

Thanks for the words of sympathy and advice! It was lucky that it happened on summer vacation so I didn't have to miss a week of school (because my sub plans are never in order Tongue ). I'm looking forward to working on things at a nice slow pace so I can A) Do a really good job B) Take plenty of naps and C) Not be a crazy woman finishing at the last minute!

I really wanted to make one of my items last weekend, though! I am very tempted to give it as a birthday gift. But, it's something that I really could have used last week, so I figured that if I made mine and then used it, then I wouldn't be able to give it away because it was used! Cheesy

I have one done.. and some faces for the rest.. I actually made some polymer clay faces!  They need sanding.. so they might not make it.. my first ones are THICK... but some glow in the dark.. which I just love.. looked through my beading mag.. and I could get some glow in the dark beads... hmmmm... I do have glow in the dark thread and paint.. may have to play some more....

Instead of sleeping, my brain has been sifting through ideas for my dotees and I actually thought about making glow in the dark faces! too funny! But then, I wouldn't need to go shopping since I already have the supplies... and I really need to GO SHOPPING!!
7108  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: 2008 12" Squares ~ JULY on: July 27, 2008 05:55:11 PM
I finished my June square! But I still have to weave in the ends...

I was at my mom's recuperating from a pulled back muscle and the one thing I grabbed on the way out the door was the yarn and square! I didn't go on to July because I didn't do July '07 yet, and since I'm making such good progress, I'm superstitious about skipping the '07 square Tongue

So, I'll post my June square in a day or two and then I'll be starting on my July squares...quickly followed by August Wink

Everyone's squares are looking great!

Wow! Both of my awesome partners (longtimegeek and Tanza) are way ahead of me! But, I have a legitimate excuse...really!

On Friday the 18th of July, as a reward for surviving the physics class of doom, I went shopping for supplies for my items. I came with a full weekend of crafting joy planned. But, from sitting for about 40 hours listening to physics blah blah blah, my back was killing me! So, I opted to sleep on the futon in the spare room. As I was clearing off the piles of laundry, I leaned and lifted, and pulled out my back. Out of commission for a week! I spent most of it at my mom's, but because of the "meds," I wasn't thinking clearly enough to remember to pack my craft supplies. So, a week of no crafting! Ack!! But now, while still not 100%, at least I'm home, and can craft when I'm up to it...and then take nice long naps Wink

Oh my! So many awesome things up for grabs in this round (as in the last round Wink ). I'll have to start my "Perfect for me" and "Perfect Gift for" list again! So far, everything is perfect for me.

And, I have a brown ami owl just like the blue one being offered. They'd make a lovely couple!!
